Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker — Transmog Set Guide

Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker is a legendary one-handed sword from classic World of Warcraft that dropped alongside the opening of the Molten Core raid. It is one of the most recognizable blades in the game's history: a blue-white edge wreathed in arcing lightning, with a hilt shaped like wings. On hit, the weapon unleashes a chain lightning that strikes several targets and lowers their nature resistance.

Today the sword's own stats have long been irrelevant, but its model remains one of the most sought-after for transmogrification. The effect of lightning constantly crackling along the weapon in a character's hands sets the look apart from the overwhelming majority of swords in the game. You can still obtain the blade today — the chain has not been removed, and the entire raid can be cleared solo.

Thunderfury does not drop directly. It is assembled through a quest chain, and almost everything you need is gathered in the Molten Core raid — the dungeon beneath Blackrock Depths.

The key and longest stage is to obtain the two halves of the Bindings of the Windseeker. They drop from two different raid bosses:

• The left half — from Baron Geddon.
• The right half — from Garr.

The drop chance of each half is very low — around 3–4%, so collecting both parts usually takes many raid runs. Each boss can be killed once a week on a single character, so you can speed up the farm by leveling several characters and entering the raid on each of them.

Once you have at least one half in hand, head to Silithus to Highlord Demitrian. He is located in the western part of the zone and gives out the quest chain for assembling the blade.

To complete the quest Thunderaan the Windseeker you will need:

• Both halves of the Bindings of the Windseeker.
• Essence of the Firelord — drops with a 100% chance from Ragnaros while the quest is active.
• Ten units of the Enchanted Elementium Bar — crafted via the Blacksmithing profession from expensive reagents.

After you turn in the materials, Demitrian summons the final opponent — Prince Thunderaan. You need to take the blade from his body and return it to Demitrian to complete the final quest Rise, Thunderfury! and receive the finished weapon.

The chain is not available to all classes. The quest can be taken by warriors, paladins, rogues, hunters, and death knights.

Thunderfury has no color variations — it is a unique weapon model with its own animated lightning effect, and no recolors of it exist. There are few blades in the game similar in silhouette and presentation, since the constant arcing effect makes the look practically one of a kind.

If you want a sword with a similar "stormy" feel, look at weapons from later expansions with lightning effects; however, there is no full-fledged replacement for the legendary look among ordinary items. It is precisely the uniqueness of the model that keeps demand for this transmog high.
