Transmogrification

Transmogrification (transmogrification, or simply "transmog")— is a system that allows you to change the appearance of your character's equipment without altering its stats. Thanks to transmog, players can create unique looks by combining items of different appearances while keeping their combat properties.

The main idea is the ability to "transform" the look of your equipment into that of another item. For example, you can wear heavy armor that looks like a shirt or a dress, or change a weapon's appearance to another type (two-handed axe to sword, staff to dagger, etc.) with restrictions based on your character's equipment type.

Transmogrification does not affect an item's stats — only its appearance.

Transmogrification NPCs: Every major city has special NPCs that provide equipment appearance change services.

Mounts and toys: There are special mounts and toys that, when summoned, allow you to use the transmogrification service.

For example: Grand Expedition Yak and Ethereal Transmogrifier

Approach the NPC and interact with them.

The interface will display a list of your equipped gear and items available for transmogrification.

Select the item whose appearance you want to apply to another equipped item.

After selecting, confirm the change.

• Dungeons and Raids

You can obtain transmog models from dungeons and raids you visit. These can be current dungeons and raids as well as ones from previous expansions. Note that different difficulty levels feature different armor colors — if you want to get a set from a specific difficulty, don't forget to switch the dungeon or raid difficulty before entering.

• Quests

Some items can be obtained by completing quest chains, both main storyline and side quests. These quests reward you with class-specific equipment that also gets added as transmogrification models.

• Reputation / Vendors

You can reach a certain reputation level with specific in-game factions, and those faction vendors will gladly offer you various items and sometimes entire transmog sets. These can include armor/weapon pieces as well as special enchantments that give weapons various glow and animation effects. Similar sets are also available for PvP currency from previous expansions. You can obtain them with Honor Points instead of reputation.

Note that some equipment items require earning specific ranks during the expansions they were introduced in. For example, some PvP gear can no longer be obtained in the current version of the game.

• Auction House

The game has many very rare items obtained through crafting or killing rare monsters. Because of this, the Auction House is filled with all kinds of transmog. These range from cheap low-quality pieces to incredibly rare items sold for large amounts of gold.

• In-Game Shop / Expansion Pre-Orders

The in-game shop offers various items and sets available for a limited time and sold only for real money. Similar sets are also included with Heroic and Epic edition expansion pre-orders.

• Trading Post

Every month you can obtain various mounts and transmog items from the Trading Post. It can be found in the main capital cities of the game. Finding the Trading Post is very easy — it appears on the map with a special icon

• Dungeons and Raids

Regularly visit dungeons and raids from previous expansions to get as many transmogrification options for your equipment as possible, since the rarest items can take many months to farm due to extremely low drop chances.

• Use Collections

WoW has weapon and armor appearance collections that can be browsed through the transmogrification interface. This is convenient for quickly finding the style you want. In this interface you can see all existing transmog models and learn how and where to obtain them.

• Create Your Own Sets for Quick Transmogrification

The transmogrification service applies the desired appearance to a specific item, but when you replace that item with another one, the transmog disappears and needs to be reapplied. To avoid recreating your look every time, you can create your own sets for quick application. This can be done at the transmogrification NPC. Simply create your look, then click "New Outfit -> Save" and give it a name.

Now you can always quickly select the outfit you need.

• Keep Up with Updates

Developers add new appearances and customization options with every expansion. Don't miss updates to always stay on top of the fashion game.

• Transmogrification is not free — the more pieces you change, the more gold is required to apply the changes.

• You can change a weapon's appearance to another type if your class supports it.

For example, if you're wearing a two-handed axe, you'll have access to all two-handed weapons your class can equip, allowing you to change a two-handed sword to a two-handed axe or any other weapon you prefer.

• Not all equipment slots can be transmogrified. For example, shirts and cloaks cannot be transmogrified but are displayed over clothing items. This is important to keep in mind when putting together your look.
