Overview

Umbral Scythehorn

Game iconUmbral Scythehorn is a ground mount from the Shadowlands expansion, added in patch 9.0.1. It is a large dusk gorm with massive horns and chitinous mandibles, belonging to the fauna of Ardenweald. According to the lore description, dusk gorms are the most peaceful members of their species, yet they are precisely the ones that grow the most impressive horns and mandibles.

The mount is purchased from quartermaster Spindlenose for 5000 Reservoir Anima and 5 Grateful Offerings upon reaching Revered with the Court of Night faction. It is one of the cosmetic mounts of the Night Fae covenant — only characters who belong to this covenant can ride it.

Why you want this mount

  • A unique Night Fae steed — a gorm stands out unusually in a collection full of standard wyverns, drakes and wolves. Its dark dusk coloring with runes makes it one of the most atmospheric mounts of Ardenweald.
  • An accessible reputation reward — unlike mounts from raids and random loot, the Umbral Scythehorn is guaranteed: you simply need to reach Revered with the Court of Night and save up the currency.
  • Part of the covenant collection — if you play Night Fae, the mount logically completes the reward set: alongside it, Spindlenose also sells the Game iconWinterborn Runestag and cosmetic appearances.
  • Maximum speed for a ground mount — it grants +60% or +100% movement speed depending on your riding skill.
  • Account-wide for all Night Fae characters — once purchased, the mount appears in the collection on all your characters of this covenant.

How to obtain

The main path to the mount is advancing reputation with the Court of Night faction to Revered (21,000 reputation points) and collecting two covenant currencies.

  1. Join the Night Fae covenant in Ardenweald. If you previously chose another covenant, switching is free and without penalties after the release of the Dragonflight expansion
  2. Complete the first chapter of the Night Fae storyline and build the Anima Conductor in the Heart of the Forest — it is the key sanctum structure
  3. Raise reputation with the Court of Night to Revered by completing the daily tasks of the Anima Conductor in the subzones of Ardenweald
  4. Save up 5000 Reservoir Anima from daily callings, table missions and world quests
  5. Save up 5 Grateful Offerings from Anima Conductor activities
  6. Fly to Hibernal Hollow in Ardenweald and find Spindlenose at coordinates /way #1565 59.6 52.8
  7. Buy the Game iconUmbral Scythehorn from the quartermaster's goods list

Requirements and preparation

Before heading to Spindlenose, make sure all the purchase conditions are met.

  • Night Fae covenant — mandatory. The mount cannot be purchased while in another covenant, and cannot be used without Night Fae membership.
  • Revered with the Court of Night — 21,000 reputation points. As of The War Within (2026), the grind is significantly accelerated: reputation accrues faster and daily caps have been removed.
  • Night Fae storyline — you must complete the first chapter of the campaign and build the Anima Conductor in the Heart of the Forest.
  • Active anima streams — to obtain Grateful Offerings, you need to channel anima into the subzones of Ardenweald through the Conductor.
  • A reserve of funds — 5000 Reservoir Anima and 5 Grateful Offerings.

How to reach the vendor

The fastest route is to use the covenant teleport to the Heart of the Forest and then fly to Hibernal Hollow.

  1. From anywhere in the world, use your Game iconHearthstone or a teleport from a capital to Oribos.
  2. In Oribos, walk to the teleport ring and select Ardenweald.
  3. Take a flying mount and head northeast from the Heart of the Forest into the Hibernal Hollow subzone.
  4. Vendor coordinates: /way #1565 59.6 52.8
  5. Spindlenose stands near a wooden platform with the Court of Night's goods.

Farming Court of Night reputation

The main source of reputation is activities tied to the Anima Conductor in Ardenweald. For Night Fae characters, all four subzones are available; for other covenants, only two.

Additional sources of reputation

  • The weekly task from Sesselie at the Anima Conductor — a large reputation reward
  • Killing rare enemies in Ardenweald
  • Opening treasures specific to the Night Fae
  • Covenant callings — they grant additional reputation and currency

Optimizing the farm

Daily rotation

  1. Go to the Heart of the Forest and pick up a calling from Te'nira
  2. Check the status of the Anima Conductor — redirect the stream to the needed subzone for 25 Reservoir Anima
  3. Complete an activity in the active subzone (raid-champion, treasure or rare)
  4. Pick up daily tasks from the board in Hibernal Hollow
  5. Turn in the calling — receive reputation and currency

Parallel tasks

While you build up reputation to Revered, collect both currencies in parallel:

  • Reservoir Anima drops from Ardenweald world quests, table missions, daily tasks and callings. 5000 anima accumulates over 1–2 weeks of active play
  • Grateful Offerings are awarded exclusively for Anima Conductor activities. A maximum of 3 offerings per active stream. 5 of them accumulate over roughly 2–3 redirections

Speeding up at max level

At level 80 in The War Within, all Shadowlands content is cleared in a single hit. Use this:

  • You kill any elite champion solo in seconds
  • Ardenweald's rare enemies drop instantly
  • World quests are completed in 30–60 seconds each
  • In an hour of active play you can gain 3000–4000 reputation if all Conductor streams are active

Tips

1

Do not switch covenant before buying the mount — the inv_decomposermountblackUmbral Scythehorn is only available with Night Fae membership. If you plan to switch covenant, buy the mount first, then transfer.

2

Redirect the anima stream deliberately — each redirection costs 25 Reservoir Anima and lasts 24 hours. Plan activities a day ahead.

3

Buy both Court of Night mounts at onceSpindlenose also sells the inv_ardenwealdstagmount_whiteWinterborn Runestag for the same currencies. Close out both mounts at once if you have saved enough resources.

4

Watch the weekly quests — the task from Sesselie at the Anima Conductor gives a large portion of reputation. Do not miss its reset on Wednesday (Europe) or Tuesday (North America).

5

Use the callings — this is the most efficient activity for collecting currency and reputation at the same time. Turn them in daily at the Heart of the Forest

6

Soulshapes as a bonus — while farming the inv_decomposermountblackUmbral Scythehorn, you simultaneously unlock alternative Night Fae soulshape appearances, which also count toward the collection.

7

Don't forget the raid — Castle Nathria also drops cosmetic rewards for the Night Fae, so combine activities during the week.
