Overview

Vagabond's Bounding Baton

Game iconVagabond's Bounding Baton is an epic two-handed staff with the intellect stat, added to World of Warcraft with The War Within expansion (patch 11.0.0). The model belongs to the family of street Arathi weapons from The War Within: a light shaft with a warm golden-amber palette and a finial styled after Arathi culture, echoing the look of the Ringing Deeps' exiles and wanderers.

This is a weapon for all classes that wield a caster staff: mages, druids, priests, shamans, warlocks, monks, and evokers. By silhouette and palette the baton is built around the "light" sets of The War Within and looks great in the hands of a character leaning into the theme of the Light and the Arathi march.

Unlike raid and dungeon drops, this staff does not need to be looted from bosses — it is crafted by a scribe, so its appearance is available to anyone who closes the right profession branch or orders the work from a master.

Vagabond's Bounding Baton is a Khaz Algar-tier Inscription product requiring skill 100. The recipe is learned automatically after investing knowledge points into the staff specialization: the Careful Carvings branch, the Combative Curiosities node, then the staff sub-node. The weapon is crafted through the spell Game iconVagabond's Bounding Baton.

The finished staff binds when picked up, so if you do not level Inscription yourself, place an order for crafting with a scribe through the crafting orders system.

Reagents for the build:

Reagent Quantity Wowhead
Spark of Omens 2 Game iconitem=211296
Writhing Sample 20 Game iconitem=213611
Codified Greenwood 15 Game iconitem=222557
Boundless Cipher 10 Game iconitem=222559

The key limiter here is the Spark of Omens. This is an account-bound reagent assembled from two shards and valorstones and handed out on a timer, so plan your build ahead and don't waste sparks on unneeded orders.

Who it suits visually

  • Harmonizes with the light cloth sets of The War Within's armory style — the baton's golden-white palette repeats the trim of these sets.
  • Suits looks with the light and amber theme of the Ringing Deeps: Light priests, warlocks, and mages in warm tones.
  • Stands out against dark necrotic and shadow sets — the shaft becomes a bright accent on a gloomy background.
  • Forms a single pairing with the off-hand Game iconVagabond's Torch if you want a finished weapon set in one style.

Tips

1

If you do not run Inscription yourself, order the staff through the crafting orders system — the finished item binds when picked up, but the appearance unlocks for transmog after the first pickup.

2

Stock up on the Spark of Omens in advance: it is the tightest reagent on a timer, and without it the order can't be closed.

3

The appearance is identical for the intellect version and the agility inv_staff_2h_arathoroutdoor_d_01Vagabond's Careful Crutch — build whichever one you have more materials for.

4

The Writhing Sample drops from corrupted plant mobs of Khaz Algar — grab it along the way while farming in The War Within zones.

5

You only need the appearance once: after unlocking, the look is saved in the collection and available to all characters on the account.

6

For a paired look, build the off-hand Vagabond's Torch in the same branch — the reagents largely overlap with the staff.

7

Item level here is secondary: only the unlocked appearance matters for transmog, so building the top version for stats at max level 90 is not necessary.

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
