WoW Forever Discipline Priest — Guide (Beta Test)
About the Class
This guide is based on the World of Warcraft: Forever beta and covers gameplay up to level 20. The talents and combat tips are starting recommendations built on the spells and talents available in the beta. They will be refined as testing continues.
Discipline Priest is a proactive healer that relies on shields, buffs, and support while balancing between Light and Shadow. Instead of healing damage after it lands, this spec prevents it with shields and incoming damage reduction. For this kind of Priest, Light and Shadow are tools, not a faith.
In Forever, the spec has a much clearer identity than in Classic: Penance, Renewed Hope, and Divine Aegis have been added to its toolkit.
Strengths
Power Word: Shield prevents damage before it happens and buys time to heal.- A mix of Light and Shadow: you can heal, and deal damage when no one needs healing.
- Strong group support: buffs,
Cure Disease, and
Dispel Magic. - The new Forever tools make the spec more self-sufficient than in Classic.
Weaknesses
- Mana management is the key skill: in long fights your Mana runs out fast.
- Most of the new tools unlock after level 20.
- Healing in the beta comes down to a few buttons.
- Solo damage is modest, and you end up finishing off a lot of enemies with your wand.
Stat Priority
- 1Healing Power
- 2Mana per 5
- 3Spirit
- 4Intellect
Talents
Talent Notes
Wand Specialization 2/5 — more damage for the wand you use to finish off enemies.
Twin Disciplines 3/5 — strengthens Holy and Shadow spells.
Improved Power Word: Shield 1/3 — a sturdier shield.
Spirit Tap 5/5 — Mana regeneration after a kill, the main talent for leveling.
Ability Priority
If you are playing solo, or there is no one in your group to heal yet:
- Before combat, keep
Power Word: Fortitude and
Inner Fire up on yourself - Right before the fight starts, cast
Power Word: Shield on yourself or the tank
Holy Fire on the farthest enemy
Smite while the enemy closes in
Mind Blast
Shadow Word: Pain- Finish with your wand
Finish enemies off with your wand rather than
Smite or
Mind Blast: Mana management is a Priest's most important skill. Feel free to deviate from the rotation if you need to save yourself or an ally.
Important Abilities
Best in Slot (BiS)
There is no BiS list for the beta yet. Grab the highest-level gear available with Healing Power, Mana per 5, Spirit, and Intellect.
Enchants, Gems, Consumables
Best Race
The best Priest racial abilities on the Alliance. Confounding Flash is excellent AoE crowd control: it disorients up to five enemies, and the effect breaks on damage. The real star is Contingency Plan, which gives an ally a second chance at life.
Undead have more tools for Mana and self-sustain than Trolls. Cannibalize and Dark Sacrifice are new options that help you manage Mana.
Best Professions
The traditional Priest choice: Tailoring provides cloth armor, while Enchanting lets you enchant your items and disenchant spare gear. These professions do not compete for materials.
If you need potions and elixirs.
Whatever you choose, it is worth picking up Cooking, Fishing, and First Aid.
