WoW Forever: Enhancement Shaman
About the Class
An Enhancement Shaman fights with a two-handed weapon and backs up melee strikes with magic.
Stormstrike empowers your next eligible spell,
Maelstrom Weapon lets you cast an instant Lightning Bolt, and
Rage of the Farseer opens a window of faster attacks. Totems remain an important part of how you support the group.
Every Shaman role uses Mana. Totems work in a limited area, so check their position after the group moves. Many utility totems last up to five minutes, but fire totems may need refreshing more often.
Totemic Recall and
Totemic Call help you manage totems you have already placed.
Strengths
- Strong weapon attacks and short windows of boosted damage.
- Useful totems for both melee and casters.
- Self-healing and an interrupt.
Weaknesses
- Needs a good weapon and several different offensive stats.
- Without managing your Mana, long fights get harder.
- You have to stay next to the enemy for auto-attacks.
Stat Priority
- 1Weapon DPS
- 2Hit
- 3Expertise
- 4Critical Strike
- 5Strength
- 6Intellect
Against raid bosses, the hit target is 8% for special weapon attacks and 17% total for spells. Since your damage is mixed, one number doesn't mean both parts are fully capped. Intellect gains extra value from talents that convert it into offensive stats.
Talents
Rotation (Ability Priority)
The opener is a set sequence of abilities you use as you engage an enemy. Memorising it helps initiate your rotation in the most optimal way possible.
- 1
Searing Totem - 2
Flame Shock
- Keep whichever weapon buff you have up before combat; early on,
Rockbiter Weapon works well
Searing Totem — extra damage in a suitable fight
Flame Shock — when you have enough Mana and the target will live long enough
Earth Shock — for an interrupt or extra damage when you have enough resources
Important Abilities
Ability | Use |
|---|---|
| Interrupt a dangerous spell; keep the shared shock cooldown in mind | |
| Help the group against fear, sleep, and charm | |
| Remove dangerous poisons from eligible nearby allies | |
| Help against diseases | |
| Slow eligible enemies | |
| Resurrect a fallen ally out of combat |
Totems don't replace good positioning. Place them where the group benefits, not just wherever the Shaman happens to be standing.
Best in Slot (BiS)
Enchants, Gems, Consumables
Best Race
This is the Alliance race available to Shamans.
Stoneform provides extra protection and removes certain harmful effects. The racial hit bonus is useful for offensive actions.
Blood Fury gives you a burst window, and the racial defensive tools help against crowd control and magical threats. Line up the active buff with a moment when you can actually make use of it.
Wind Blessed grants 2% speed. This is useful for both spells and weapon attacks. Choose your race based on your role, group, and personal comfort, not just a small difference in damage.
Best Professions
Leatherworking together with
Skinning lets you craft leather and mail items as well as armor kits. Pick stats for your specific role: weapon damage, spells, or healing.
Engineering gives you extra devices, and
Enchanting helps you upgrade your gear. Also choose professions based on which materials and items your group needs.
FAQ
Is the spec good for beginners?
Yes, if you enjoy combining weapon attacks, shocks, and self-healing. Keep your weapon buff up and don't spend all your Mana on every regular enemy.
Can a Shaman dual wield?
No. In Forever, Shamans can't dual wield. Two-handed axes and maces are learned as weapon skills, without the old separate talent required to use them.
Do I need to keep rotating air totems?
The old totem twisting for a short Windfury buff is no longer needed. A totem provides a permanent aura as long as the conditions for its effect are met. Watch your positioning and which effect your group needs.
Why can't I use another shock right after the first one?
Shocks share a cooldown. Plan for it if you will need an interrupt soon: an extra attack can leave you with no answer to a dangerous spell.
Where to get gear before raids?
From level 60 dungeons, quests, and professions. Upgraded dungeon sets require quest chains. Pick items for your role: weapon stats for Enhancement, spell stats for Elemental, and healing plus Mana for Restoration.
