Xy'rath's Letter Opener — Transmog Set Guide

Xy'rath's Letter Opener is a one-handed dagger of rare quality, added to World of Warcraft in the Shadowlands expansion alongside patch 9.2 and the Zereth Mortis zone. The dagger is crafted in the distinctive aesthetic of the brokers: a slim, curved blade of a dark hue, a understated hilt with an angular guard, and a muted metallic glow. The silhouette is deliberately "business-like" — the model genuinely resembles a paper knife, which is also reflected in its name: the item belonged to Xy'rath of the Xy Cartel, a merchant for whom contracts and deals meant no less than weapons.

The dagger is suitable for all classes that use this weapon type: rogues, druids, shamans, warlocks, priests, mages, and evokers. In terms of gameplay stats the item is long outdated (item level 70, requires character level 60), so today it is taken purely for its appearance for transmogrification. The look is unlocked in your collection upon first obtaining the item.

The dagger drops from the rare elite Xy'rath the Covetous — a level 61 humanoid from the Xy Cartel faction. The enemy is located in the Zereth Mortis zone, near the Antecedent Shards area, beside a group of unfortunate pilgrims.

The enemy respawns on a timer and is not tied to weekly lockouts — the farm can be repeated as many times as needed. At max character level Xy'rath the Covetous is killed solo without any trouble.

To access Zereth Mortis you need to unlock the zone through the patch 9.2 story campaign. On your first character you must complete the opening chapters of the "Chains of Domination" campaign, after which the quest "The Primus' Call" is automatically granted, leading into the new zone. On additional characters on the account, an accelerated campaign skip is available from Tal-Inara in Oribos.
