Zangartooth Shortblade — Transmog Set Guide
Overview

Zangartooth Shortblade is an epic one-handed dagger added to World of Warcraft with The Burning Crusade expansion. It is item level 33, requires character level 30, binds when picked up, and is available to intellect-using classes: mage, druid, priest, shaman, warlock, and summoner.
Visually it is a narrow dagger on a light hilt with a distinctive greenish-gray metallic finish — the icon is inv_weapon_shortblade_27. The model belongs to the "short blades" family of The Burning Crusade era and fits low- and mid-level mage and druid sets well.
The dagger has the stats +22 intellect, +6 stamina, and +6 critical strike rating. Speed 1.80, damage 2–5, and it sells to a vendor for 1 gold, 35 silver, and 21 copper.
Source
The dagger drops from the final boss of The Underbog dungeon — Swamplord Musel'ek. The dungeon is located in the southern part of Zangarmarsh, within the Coilfang Reservoir complex.
- Difficulty: normal. The heroic version is not used for this item's drop in current patches.
- Source type: 5-player dungeon, The Burning Crusade era.
- Drop chance: about 10.67% per boss kill according to Wowhead.
- Limit: there is no cap on the number of attempts — you can enter as many times a day as you like.
- Soloability: on a level 70+ character the dungeon is cleared single-handedly with no trouble; at 90 it takes a couple of minutes.
Swamplord Musel'ek comes paired with his battle cat Olum. Mechanically the boss is not difficult: he periodically backs off to his pet and shoots his bow while the pet leaps at the target. For farming it is enough to kill both — the loot table is shared.
How to Get There
- Open the Outland map and travel to Zangarmarsh.
- The entrance to Coilfang Reservoir is in the center of the zone, in the large lake: coordinates
/way Zangarmarsh 50 65. - Inside the reservoir, choose the portal to The Underbog (the lower eastern tunnel). The Slave Pens and the Steamvault dungeons use the same sister entrances.
- The boss Swamplord Musel'ek is the last one on the route, roughly a 5–7 minute walk straight from the entrance through the halls with mushrooms and naga.
Alternatives and Similar Daggers
This particular model has no color recolors on other items. The Zangartooth Shortblade itself is the only known item using the inv_weapon_shortblade_27 icon in epic quality with this color scheme.
If you specifically need this dagger model in a different color scheme — it does not exist in the game. As a substitute, look for other epic daggers from The Burning Crusade-era dungeons with a similar "short blade" silhouette — they are picked up into the transmog collection through the weapon-type and dungeon filters on the daggers page on Wowhead.
Who It Suits Visually
- Mages and warlocks in early-tier The Burning Crusade sets — the dagger pairs well with the green-purple palette of Outland.
- Priests and shamans in "swamp wanderer" concepts — the model is light and does not overload the silhouette.
- For druids in cat/bear forms the dagger is not visible, but in humanoid form it supports a "nature" look thanks to the greenish finish of the hilt.
- It combines with cloth sets from Zangarmarsh and Outland: the hilt and blade echo the color range of the zone's mushroom fauna.
- It contrasts with the dark sets of the Shadowlands and the Underground — a debatable but sometimes fitting choice if you want a bright accent in hand.
Tips
At level 90 Swamplord Musel'ek is killed in one or two hits, so farming a single run takes 5–10 minutes including the path from the entrance.
Enter the dungeon on normal difficulty — this cuts the time spent mowing down trash and does not affect the dagger's drop chance.
The dagger binds when picked up: it cannot be passed to alts, so you need to farm it on the character that wants it in their collection.
If you only need the transmog and the dagger itself did not drop — leave the dungeon, move 5–10 minutes away from the entrance, and enter again to reset the instance cooldown.
The Underbog also drops other epic items and rare crafting recipes — in a single run you can check several collections at once.
The dungeon is open to any level — there is no upper level cap on the character, but it is most convenient to farm at max level.
Remember the binding: do not try to sell the dagger on the auction house, you can only sell it to a vendor.

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
