Alysra's Razor — Transmog Set Guide

Alysra's Razor is an epic one-handed dagger added to World of Warcraft with the Cataclysm expansion (patch 4.2.0, the Firelands raid). This is the heroic version of the weapon: the blade is curved into the shape of a feather, and living flame streams along its edge. Unlike the regular variant, which glows with a warm orange fire, the heroic Razor burns with a rich violet-pink light — this cool shade of flame is what makes the model recognizable among dozens of daggers from the same tier.

The dagger counts as an agility melee weapon: by its stats it was designed for rogues, as well as enhancement shamans and survival hunters of the Cataclysm era. These days the stats don't matter — the item is valuable purely as a transmog. The feather and flame point directly to its drop source: the fire hawk Alysrazor, one of the bosses of Ragnaros's fire raid.

Alysra's Razor drops from the boss Alysrazor — the fourth opponent a group usually encounters in the Firelands raid. The raid bosses are placed on separate arenas; Alysrazor dwells on the northeastern platform.

• Specifically, item=71427 is the heroic version of the dagger. It drops from Alysrazor only when clearing the raid on heroic difficulty.
• The normal version of the item is Alysra's Razor with item level 378; the heroic version has item level 391.
• The normal and heroic versions look different: each grants a separate appearance in your collection, so to complete the set it's worth obtaining both.
• There's no attempt limit — the raid can be run every week until the dagger drops.

How to reach the raid: take the portal to Hyjal from Orgrimmar or Stormwind (the Cataclysm portal hall), then fly south on a flying mount — the entrance to the Firelands sits on the Sulfuron Spire, in the southern fiery part of Hyjal. Druids can shorten the trip by opening a portal to Hyjal from the Emerald Dream.

The fight with Alysrazor can be soloed completely, but it's one of the most unusual encounters in the Firelands. The duel is split into four phases with plenty of movement: you need to fly through fire rings, building up buff stacks, and control additional enemies. At a modern character level the boss's damage isn't a survival threat, but because of the flight mechanic and phase timers the fight demands attention — it isn't killed in one strike like the trash of older raids.

• Fits perfectly into fire-themed sets — the plate and leather tier 12 sets from the Firelands are built around the same palette of red-hot metal and flame.
• The violet-pink glow pairs well with dark leather armor in cool tones: against a black or purple background the blade reads as a bright contrasting accent.
• The feathered blade shape supports looks tied to birds and the element of fire — for example, sets with a phoenix or fire hawk motif.
• Dual daggers for a rogue look expressive if you take the normal and heroic Razors together: the orange and violet-pink blades give contrast between one hand and the other.
• Less successful with heavy plate sets in warm gold-bronze tones — the pink flame on such a background clashes with the overall scheme.
