Overview

Amber Skitterfly

Amber Skitterfly is an epic ground and flying mount added in patch 10.2.6 of the Dragonflight expansion. It is a large insect with translucent amber-tinted wings, resembling a dragonfly. The mount is purchased at the Trading Post for 500 Trader's Tender.

The in-game description reads: "A gift from Granddad Wartooth to the Trading Post — amber skitterflies are remarkably docile." The skitterflies were tamed in the Dragon Isles by the Dragonscale Expedition: Granddad Wartooth trained the skitterflies to carry cargo and expedition members around the camp. The Amber Skitterfly stands out among its kin with its rich orange-amber coloring, which is easy to spot both on the ground and in the air.

The Amber Skitterfly's model is shared by four other mounts of the skitterfly family: Game iconAzure Skitterfly, Game iconTamed Skitterfly and Game iconVerdant Skitterfly. Each variant differs in color palette, but their flying and ground movement animations are identical.

Why you want this mount

  • Guaranteed acquisition — the mount is bought with a fixed in-game currency. No random drop chance and no real-money cost.
  • Low price — 500 Trader's Tender can be earned in a single month just by claiming the monthly bonus from the chest. It is one of the cheapest mounts in the Trading Post lineup.
  • Ground and flying — the mount works both on the ground and in the air. Speed depends on your character's riding skill: up to +100% on the ground and up to +310% in flight.
  • Unique silhouette — skitterflies look noticeably different from dragons, gryphons and other standard flying mounts. Your character sits astride the back of a giant insect.
  • Available to both factions — both the Alliance and the Horde can buy the mount. Once purchased, it becomes available on every character of the account.

How to get it

  1. Make sure your character has access to the Trading Post. It is located in Stormwind (Alliance), Orgrimmar (Horde) or Dornogal (both factions).
  2. Save up 500 Trader's Tender. Tender is granted monthly and does not expire — more on that in the section below.
  3. Wait for a month in which the Amber Skitterfly appears in the Trading Post lineup. The stock rotates every month. The mount was last available in February 2026.
  4. Visit the Trading Post and purchase the Game iconAmber Skitterfly for 500 Trader's Tender.
  5. Use the item you receive — the mount will be added to your mount journal and become available on every character of the account.

Trading Post: how to earn Trader's Tender

To buy the Amber Skitterfly you will need 500 Trader's Tender. This is the minimum amount you can obtain in a single month.

Monthly bonus (500 Tender)

Each month, on your first visit to the Trading Post, you can claim 500 Trader's Tender from the collector's chest. That alone is enough to buy the mount if you haven't spent any Tender before.

Traveler's Log (up to 500 Tender)

The Traveler's Log offers monthly tasks: clearing dungeons, taking part in battlegrounds, completing quests and other activities. Filling the Traveler's Log bar completely in a month grants up to 500 additional Tender.

First-visit bonus (500 Tender)

If you have never visited the Trading Post before, your first visit grants a one-time bonus of 500 Trader's Tender — on top of the monthly amount.

Stockpiling

Trader's Tender does not expire at the end of the month. If you are just starting to save, by actively completing Traveler's Log tasks you can gather 500 Tender in a single month. If your Tender has already been spent on other items, it will take one or two months of saving.

Trading Post stock rotation

The Trading Post inventory refreshes on the first day of each month. The Amber Skitterfly goes on sale periodically — not every month. History of the mount's appearances:

  • May 2024 — first appearance (cost 600 Trader's Tender)
  • May 2025 — repeat appearance (600 Trader's Tender)
  • February 2026 — latest appearance (500 Trader's Tender)

If the mount is absent in the current month, all you can do is wait for the next rotation. Blizzard announces the Trading Post lineup in advance on the official website and on social media — follow the news so you don't miss the right month.

Tips

1

Watch the rotation — the Amber Skitterfly does not appear in the Trading Post every month. Check the lineup at the start of each month or subscribe to Blizzard news to know the store's contents ahead of time.

2

Don't waste Trader's Tender — if you are aiming for this mount, hold off on buying lower-priority transmogs and pets. 500 Tender adds up quickly, but impulse purchases can push your goal back.

3

Fill the Traveler's Log — the monthly tasks often overlap with your normal gameplay. Completing them along the way doubles your monthly Tender income (up to 1,000 instead of 500).

4

Claim the monthly bonus — don't forget to visit the Trading Post and open the collector's chest at the start of each month. Without this action, the 500 bonus Tender will not be granted.

5

The mount is available from level 10 — the base riding skill is enough to use it. Flying requires the "Master Riding" skill, which becomes available at higher levels.

6

The price drops — on repeat appearances in the Trading Post the mount's price may change. In February 2026 the Amber Skitterfly cost 500 Tender instead of the original 600. Wait for a good deal.

7

Check all three shops — the stock is identical in Stormwind, Orgrimmar and Dornogal. Visit whichever shop is closest to your current location.
