Overview

Reins of the Amethyst Ruinstrider

Game iconReins of the Amethyst Ruinstrider is a ground talbuk mount added in patch 7.3 "Shadows of Argus" of the Legion expansion. It is a large talbuk with a purple-amethyst coloring and massive chitinous plates: according to the game's lore, the talbuks of Argus adapted to endless war over centuries and grew the armor that their Draenor kin lack.

The mount is sold by Toraan the Revered aboard the Vindicaar for 10,000 gold at Exalted reputation with the Argussian Reach faction. It is part of a set of six ruinstriders in different colors — all the same talbuk with a recolored model.

Why You Want This Mount

  • Guaranteed purchase, no drop — the mount does not drop randomly. Reach Exalted, pay 10,000 gold, and the talbuk is yours.
  • A unique talbuk model — this is not a recolor of orcish or Draenor talbuks but a distinct model with chitinous armor, an altered face, and horns. There are no other talbuks like it in the game.
  • A six-color set — along the way you unlock access to five neighboring color variants from the same vendor. All six ruinstriders count as separate mounts toward your total collected.
  • Account-wide access — once purchased, the mount unlocks on every character on your account regardless of faction or class.
  • Bonus achievement progress — reaching Exalted with the Argussian Reach counts toward the "Champion of Argus" meta-achievement and opens the path to the Lightbearer title.

How to Reach Argus

Argus is Legion content, but access to it opens through the Broken Shore and Dalaran in the Broken Isles. In 2026 the entire chain can be completed solo in a couple of hours at most.

  1. Fly to Dalaran in the Broken Isles. A portal to Dalaran exists in Orgrimmar (Hall of the Brave) and Stormwind (Mage Quarter).
  2. Head up to the Violet Citadel and pick up the quest The Hand of Fate from Archmage Khadgar. This is the starting quest of the entire Argus chain.
  3. Complete the intro line, transfer to Azuremyst, and find yourself aboard the Vindicaar — the draenei's flying fortress-ship.
  4. Continue the story on Argus through the Krokuun zone. You will complete the quest A Found Memory — it unlocks the local quests for reputation in Krokuun.
  5. Complete the story in Mac'Aree and obtain the Seal of Wakening — after that, quests in Mac'Aree open up.
  6. Finish the Antoran Wastes storyline through the quest Burning Heart — this opens the final zone for local quests.

After completing all three zones you will have access to the full cycle of local quests, weekly quests, and missions from the tactical map on the Vindicaar.

How to Farm Argussian Reach Reputation

To get from Neutral to Exalted you need to earn a total of 42,000 reputation points. Going from 0 to Exalted realistically takes 3–4 weeks with regular completion of local and weekly quests, or 1–2 days if you actively push the story on a fresh character.

Story Quests

Fully completing the Argus campaign grants about 8,000–10,000 reputation points. This is the baseline worth closing out on one character right away.

Local Quests on Argus

The main reputation source after the campaign. Each Argussian Reach local quest grants 75 reputation points plus additional loot.

  • Check the Argus map every day — quests are scattered across all three zones
  • Prioritize Argussian Reach quests — they have a purple shield icon
  • If the Argussian Reach emissary is active that day, four completed quests grant 1,500 points as a bonus on top of the quests' own rewards

Weekly Quests

Items and Missions

  • Game iconArgussian Reach Insignia — 250 points, drops from quests and missions
  • Game iconGreater Argussian Reach Insignia — 750 points
  • Demon soul stones — a small amount of reputation, dropped by mobs on Argus
  • Missions from the tactical map on the Vindicaar regularly reward insignias — take every one available

Paragon After Exalted

Once the faction is Exalted, reputation keeps accumulating, and every 10,000 points beyond the cap sends you a paragon cache with extra Argus loot. It is a solid side source of Apexis Crystals and Army of the Light currency, though there are no unique mounts in the cache.

Step-by-Step Acquisition Guide

  1. Unlock access to Argus through the The Hand of Fate chain in Dalaran in the Broken Isles
  2. Complete the story in Krokuun, Mac'Aree, and the Antoran Wastes — this opens local quests and the tactical map
  3. Take on local quests every day, never skip the Argussian Reach emissary
  4. Complete both weekly quests — "The Power of Corruption" and the Seat of the Triumvirate quest
  5. Run missions from the tactical map — some of them yield insignias
  6. Grind reputation to Exalted — 42,000 points total
  7. Board the Vindicaar and find Toraan the Revered at coordinates /way #8403 68 56
  8. Buy the Game iconReins of the Amethyst Ruinstrider from him for 10,000 gold. If you like, grab the other five colors at the same time
  9. Use the reins from your inventory — the mount will be added to your collection on all characters

The Six Argussian Reaches at Toraan

All six mounts are sold simultaneously at Exalted reputation for the same price. If you are saving up gold, it makes sense to buy the whole set in one session.

The full set will cost 60,000 gold — a noticeable sum, but not critical at level 80. If your gold is tight, start with the amethyst one and buy the next ones as you save up.

Tips and Tricks

  • Tap into all reputation sources at once — local quests, the emissary, weekly quests, and missions from the tactical map. If you only do one of them, the grind drags on many times longer.
  • Don't skip emissary day — four quests for a 1,500-point bonus is roughly a third of a reputation level for 20 minutes of play.
  • Stockpile Apexis Crystals — along the way you will close out the old Legion currency needed to buy relics and outdated collector items.
  • Check missions several times a day — they refresh every 12–24 hours, and some of them reward exactly the Argussian Reach insignias.
  • Get the amethyst or charcoal one first — these are the most popular color variants in the community; buy the rest later.
  • The seventh ruinstrider comes from an achievement — the Game iconIvory Ruinstrider is separately available for the achievement "You Are Now Prepared!" for killing more than 2,000 non-trivial demons in the Argus zones. It is convenient to farm alongside reputation on mages and demon hunters.
  • The farm is more comfortable on a mobile class — monk, druid, demon hunter, and paladin clear local quests faster thanks to dashes and movement speed. But the difference isn't critical — any class will do.
