Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian — Transmog Set Guide

Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian is a two-handed staff of legendary quality and one of the most recognizable artifacts of Classic World of Warcraft. It is the staff of the Guardian of Tirisfal, the weapon of Medivh: a dark shaft with a sigil hovering above its head and a flock of ravens circling around the wielder. The look has stuck in players' memory ever since the first 40-man raids and remains one of the most coveted weapon models for mages and other cloth classes.

The staff appeared in Classic World of Warcraft and was available to four classes — mage, druid, priest and warlock. Each class received its own version with a ribbon of its color on the head, but the name and base model were the same for everyone. Today it is a removed legendary item: you can no longer obtain it again, and it sits in the appearance collection only of those who assembled the staff before the chain was closed.

Atiesh was not a one-time drop but a long assembly chain across several Classic raids. The path looked like this.

• First, from the bosses of Naxxramas (40-player format) you farmed Splinter of Atiesh — you needed to gather 40 of them.
• From 40 splinters a staff frame was crafted, after which you had to speak with Anachronos at the Caverns of Time in Tanaris — he handed out the next quest in the chain.
• Next you needed to obtain the staff's base from C'Thun in the Temple of Ahn'Qiraj and the Staff Head of Atiesh from Kel'Thuzad, the final boss of Naxxramas.
• On the last step the assembled staff had to be used to summon and defeat a corrupted entity in Stratholme, cleansing the weapon of Sargeras's taint.

The chain was removed from the game in patch 3.0.2 along with the 40-man Naxxramas raid. The starting quest was taken out of the game, so it is no longer possible to begin assembling the staff. According to Wowhead and Icy Veins, the appearance is in the collection only of those who completed the assembly before the chain was removed. For new players this transmog is unavailable — it is a removed legendary of the Classic era.

If you assembled the staff in current Classic before the content closed, remember: the appearance is tied to the class it was obtained for. The finished staff also granted a portal to Karazhan for the group's members — a pleasant bonus that many mages used for years.
