Overview

Black Stallion Bridle

Game iconBlack Stallion Bridle is a ground mount available only to characters of the Alliance faction. The Black Stallion is one of the classic human riding horses and has been in the game since the original launch of World of Warcraft. Its dark, almost pitch-black coat sets it apart from the other equine mounts of Stormwind.

The item description reads: Rumor has it that SI:7 agents prefer to use these horses for their nightly excursions, due to their dark coats.

The mount provides the standard ground-movement speed bonus, which scales based on your character's riding skill level.

Why You Want This Mount

  • One of the most accessible mounts in the game — it costs only 1 gold
  • The dark coloring makes it stand out from the other Stormwind horses
  • A great pick for collectors aiming to complete every Alliance mount
  • Can be earned as a quest reward if you start the game on Exile's Reach as a human
  • Counts toward the overall mount tally for mount-collection achievements

Requirements

  • A character at level 10 or higher
  • Apprentice riding skill
  • Faction: Alliance only
  • To purchase from a vendor: a Human character, or Exalted reputation with Stormwind for any other Alliance race

How to Get the Black Stallion Bridle

There are two ways to obtain this mount: buying it from a vendor, or receiving it as a quest reward.

Method 1: Buy from a Vendor

The primary and easiest method. The mount is sold by two NPCs:

1. Katie Stokes

  • Title: Horse Breeder
  • Location: Stormwind, Old Town district, next to the SI:7 headquarters (coordinates: 77, 68)
  • Price: 1 gold

2. Unger Statforth

  • Title: Horse Breeder
  • Location: Wetlands, Menethil Harbor
  • Price: 1 gold

To purchase, walk up to either NPC and open the trade window. If your character is a Human, the mount is available immediately. Characters of other Alliance races first need to reach Exalted reputation with Stormwind.

Method 2: Quest Reward

Game iconBlack Stallion Bridle is on the reward list for the Finding a Mount quest. This quest is available to Human characters who started the game on Exile's Reach. After completing the starting zone and arriving in Stormwind, you'll be asked to speak with Randal Hunter at the Old Town stables, where you can pick a mount as your reward.

Note: the quest offers a choice between several mounts, including the Game iconBlack Stallion Bridle. If you choose a different mount, no worries — you can always buy the rest from a vendor for 1 gold.

Where to Find the Vendors — Detailed Description

Katie Stokes in Stormwind

The most convenient option for most players. Katie Stokes is located in the Old Town district of Stormwind, near the entrance to the SI:7 headquarters. The closest flight point is the Stormwind Trade District.

From the flight master, head southeast across the canal into Old Town. The stables with the NPC are to the right of the SI:7 building.

77 68 Katie Stokes

In addition to the Game iconBlack Stallion Bridle, this vendor also offers other equine mount options: Game iconChestnut Mare Bridle, Game iconBrown Horse Bridle, Game iconPinto Bridle.

Unger Statforth in the Wetlands

Unger Statforth is located in Menethil Harbor within the Wetlands zone. Historically, this NPC was the only Black Stallion seller until patch 4.0.3a, when Katie Stokes was added to Stormwind.

How to Quickly Build Stormwind Reputation

If your character is not a Human, you'll need Exalted reputation with Stormwind. A few ways to speed up the process:

  • Faction tabard. Wear the Game iconStormwind Tabard and run dungeons — you'll earn reputation points for every mob you kill
  • Quests in Elwynn Forest and Westfall. The human starting zones grant a sizable amount of Stormwind reputation
  • Repeatable cloth quests. Turn in cloth (Wool, Silk, Mageweave, Runecloth) to NPCs in Stormwind for additional reputation points

Tips and Useful Information

  • The Black Stallion is one of the few mounts of "white" (common) item quality, although functionally it's identical to higher-quality mounts
  • Movement speed depends on your riding skill, not the mount itself. With Journeyman riding, the mount grants a 100% ground-speed bonus
  • The mount binds to your character on pickup, but once learned it becomes available to all Alliance characters on your account
  • The dark coat makes the Black Stallion an excellent choice for characters with dark transmogs — especially Rogues and Warriors
  • This mount is ground-only and cannot fly
