TBC Classic Blacksmithing Profession Guide (Phase 3)

Blacksmithing is the profession for those who want to supply themselves and other players with plate armor, mail, and weapons. In The Burning Crusade, a blacksmith crafts gear for the transition period between raids, provides melee fighters with sharpening and weight stones, and supplies jewelcrafters and engineers with bars. Consumables are needed for every raid, so demand for them stays strong throughout the entire expansion.

At skill 200 and character level 40 you choose a specialization - Weaponsmith or Armorsmith - and in Outland narrow branches are added on top, unlocking the most expensive recipes. Keep in mind that leveling burns through several hundred bars: your own Mining or a stockpile of gold for the auction house is a must here.

The first tiers of the profession (up to skill 300) are learned from trainers in the capitals, while the master rank (300-375) is available only in Outland, in Hellfire Peninsula.

The master rank opens up at character level 68 and profession skill 300. There is no need to travel to Outland in advance - first bring your skill up to 300 in your home lands.

The list below is a guideline, not an exact estimate. Some recipes turn yellow toward the end of their range and no longer always grant skill points per craft. Take materials with a small surplus and keep an eye on the leftovers after each block.

The last 15 skill points can be closed out in different ways - choose based on which Shattrath faction you have aligned with and what you have on hand.

Option 1. The Scryers

The recipe is sold by Quartermaster Enuril at Friendly reputation with the Scryers. This is usually the cheapest path.

Option 2. Felsteel Gloves

Plans: Felsteel Gloves drops from Auchenai Monk in the Auchenai Crypts. The first monk can be farmed solo, so this option is convenient for those who prefer to gather everything themselves.

Option 3. Khorium Belt

Option 4. The Aldor

The recipe is obtained from Quartermaster Endarin at Honored reputation with the Aldor. At the start this path is usually the most expensive because of the primal elementals.

From here the profession starts to pay off. Pick up plans from the masters of the narrow specializations, farm rare recipes in dungeons and raids, and move on to the items that people actually buy: felsteel sets, khorium weapons, and raid consumables.

Sharpening stones, weightstones, and weights are worth keeping on the auction house at all times - it is a quiet but steady income that does not depend on how saturated the gear market is on your server.
