Overview

Черноводная абордажная сабля

Game iconBlackwater Cutlass is a rare (blue) quality one-handed sword from the very earliest era of World of Warcraft. It is a classic cutlass with a curved blade and a simple crossguard — an instantly recognizable pirate model that has long become the benchmark for a "seafaring" look.

Despite its low level, the item's value for transmog is purely stylistic: the clean silhouette of the cutlass reads beautifully on the belt and in hand without cluttering the look with details. The sword grants a little agility and critical strike rating, but in the modern game it is taken solely for its appearance.

The look fits perfectly into pirate and rogue outfits, as well as into Defias Brotherhood ensembles — the gang the sword is tied to both by source and by theme.

Source

The Blackwater Cutlass drops from Defias Brotherhood enemies in the The Deadmines dungeon — the Alliance starter dungeon in Westfall.

  • The sword drops from pirates and minions of the Defias Brotherhood inside the Deadmines, and occasionally as loot from this faction's mobs out in the open world of Westfall.
  • The dungeon is located in Westfall: the entrance is hidden in a mine beneath Moonbrook, in the lair of the Defias Brotherhood.
  • The item binds when equipped, so to unlock the appearance you have to obtain it and equip it yourself.
  • The cutlass has no fixed high drop chance — it is an ordinary drop from the dungeon's general pool, so with bad luck you will need several runs.
  • The Deadmines is built for low levels and is easily soloed by any max-level character, so farming the appearance takes mere minutes per run.

The fastest method is to run the Deadmines at max level and clear the Defias Brotherhood pirates until the cutlass drops.

Who It Suits Visually

  • Pirate and corsair looks — the cutlass's curved blade sets a seafaring theme without unnecessary details.
  • Defias Brotherhood rogue outfits — the sword is directly tied to this faction and supports its aesthetic.
  • Light rogue and hunter looks in leather armor, where the weapon should not pull focus.
  • Dual-blade sets — the compact cutlass looks great in both hands at once.
  • Themed outfits for old Westfall and coastal zones, where a simple steel blade fits in.

Tips

1

Farm the Deadmines at max level: the dungeon clears in a few minutes and offers the densest drop pool.

2

Repeat your runs — the cutlass has no guaranteed drop, and sometimes you need several attempts.

3

Bring a character of any specialization: the sword is universal by slot, and there are no class restrictions on the appearance.

4

While you're at it, gather other pirate-style items from the Deadmines to complete the look in a single route.

5

The sword binds when equipped, so equip it right after it drops to unlock the appearance in your collection.

6

For a dual look, keep a second matching blade in reserve — the cutlass looks especially striking in both hands.

7

Don't count on buying it from others: the item binds when equipped and is not sold as a ready-made appearance at the auction house.
