Overview

Bladetwister

Game iconBladetwister is an epic one-handed dagger originating from the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. It is a short melee combat blade with a slightly curved edge and a dark metallic finish, kept in a cold gray-steel palette. Its silhouette is compact and understated, free of ornate decoration — a calm, "working" knife that sits well in the hand without drawing attention to itself.

The blade drops in the legendary Ulduar raid and belongs to the rewards earned for clearing bosses in hard mode. Its stats have long been irrelevant, so today players take it purely for its appearance: the model fits neatly into most "grounded" sets for rogues, druids, and other specializations that use daggers.

Source

The Bladetwister is obtained in the Ulduar raid — a Wrath of the Lich King-era dungeon located in the Storm Peaks.

  • The item rests inside the Freya's Gift container, which appears after defeating the boss Freya.
  • The container opens only on 25-player difficulty and only if the fight against Freya was conducted in hard mode.
  • Freya's hard mode is activated through the three Ancients in the Conservatory of Life before the boss herself. Each Ancient left alive strengthens Freya and increases the reward; for Freya's Gift to appear you need hard mode — meaning at least one Ancient must be left unkilled.
  • The dagger's drop chance from the container is around 17%, with an attempt limit of one run per week per character due to the raid lockout.
  • The same container also drops Freya's other hard-mode rewards, so a run is never "empty."

Today Ulduar is easily soloed at max level. For the legacy loot system to work and items to drop as a full set, the character must outpace the raid by at least two expansions in level — at the modern max level this condition is met automatically. The main subtlety lies precisely with Freya: if you kill all three Ancients, the fight runs in normal mode and Freya's Gift will not appear. So when running for the dagger, you must deliberately leave at least one Ancient alive.

Who It Suits Visually

  • It fits dark leather sets for rogues and druids — the neutral gray-steel palette does not clash with the armor's color.
  • It harmonizes with gear in cool tones: silver, blued steel, bluish metal — for example, with other Ulduar daggers from the table above.
  • It looks great as a matching pair of blades for specializations that wield two daggers — the compact model does not clutter the character's silhouette.
  • It is fitting in "realistic" looks without glow and effects — where a bright or magical weapon would feel out of place stylistically.
  • It pairs contrastingly but interestingly with light cloth or mail armor, where the dark blade becomes an accent.

Tips

1

Enter Ulduar specifically on 25-player difficulty — on 10-player difficulty Freya's Gift does not appear at all.

2

Before the fight with Freya, do not kill all three Ancients: for hard mode and for the container to appear you must leave at least one alive.

3

The dagger's drop chance from the container is low — around 17% — so prepare in advance for several weeks of farming.

4

The raid is tied to a weekly lockout, so each character gets one attempt per week — set up the farm on several characters to speed up the collection.

5

Soloing Ulduar at max level takes little time, but do not breeze through Freya on autopilot: out of habit you might mow down all the Ancients and deny yourself the container with the dagger.

6

On the same run it makes sense to collect the other Ulduar daggers from the "Alternatives" section too — they drop from neighboring bosses and expand the set of similarly styled models.

7

If you specifically need the "starry" model, remember that the Shard of the Star and the Fang of Oblivion look identical — either one counts.
