Bloodmaw Gargoyle — Transmog Set Guide
Overview

Bloodmaw Gargoyle is a one-handed mace from the Challenge Mode weapon set of the Warlords of Draenor expansion. It is a massive pommel mace crafted in the style typical of Draenor rewards: a rough stone gargoyle with a gaping maw, held in place by a metal mount. The dark stone with crimson veins echoes the blood theme embedded in its name.
At its core this is an appearance illusion: the item is level 1 and carries no combat stats. Once applied, it permanently adds the mace's appearance to your warband's transmog collection. The model is prized by collectors for its sharp, aggressive silhouette and for its status as a reward that can no longer be obtained.
Source
The Bloodmaw Gargoyle is among the rewards for the "Challenge Warlord: Gold" achievement. To complete it, you had to clear every Warlords of Draenor dungeon in Challenge Mode with a Gold rating — meaning you had to beat the harshest time limit.
- Completing the achievement unlocked the full weapon appearance set, and the items themselves were then purchased from a vendor for apexis crystals.
- The Alliance vendor is Challenger Savina in Stormshield on Ashran.
- The Horde vendor is Challenger Sunforge in Warspear on Ashran.
- The reward is bound to the warband, so the appearance becomes available to every character on the account.
An important caveat: the Warlords of Draenor Challenge Mode was retired along with the end of the expansion. The "Challenge Warlord: Gold" achievement and the entire associated weapon set, including the Bloodmaw Gargoyle, currently cannot be obtained. If you managed to earn a Gold rating back in the day, the appearance stays in your collection forever.
Who It Suits Visually
- It harmonizes with heavy plate sets in dark and stone tones — the look of a warrior or a crushing paladin.
- It pairs with sets featuring crimson and blood-red accents thanks to the veins running through the pommel stone.
- It contrasts with light priestly and clerical sets — a debatable but striking choice for a dark-themed look.
- It looks great alongside a roughly forged shield: the silhouette of mace and shield reads as a single matched set.
Tips
1
The appearance is no longer available to obtain anew, so first check your transmog collection — you may already have it unlocked from your Warlords of Draenor days.
2
If the item was earned earlier, it is bound to the warband: apply it on any character on the account; blunt weapons can be wielded by warriors, paladins, shamans, druids, monks, and priests.
3
For a look in the spirit of the Draenor challenges, gather several pieces of the set at once — they visually complement one another.
4
When choosing shoulders and a chestpiece, aim for a dark-gray and crimson palette so they don't clash with the color of the pommel.
5
The mace looks especially impressive on large race models (draenei, orcs, tauren) — the massive pommel emphasizes their silhouette.
6
Remember that this is an appearance illusion with no stats: in combat use a regular weapon, and apply the Gargoyle only as a transmogrification.

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
