Get Bloodstained Runecrook
Overview

Bloodstained Runecrook is a two-handed staff for caster classes, added to World of Warcraft in the Dragonflight expansion with patch 10.1.5. It is a massive bone shaft wrapped in blood-red runes and topped with a skull: the model belongs to the weapon set of the ancient Aqir, rendered in a grim crimson-and-black palette. The item level is 415, suitable for the Mage, Druid, Priest, Shaman, Warlock, Monk, and Evoker specializations.
In terms of power the item has long been obsolete: for leveling in Midnight at level 90 it is useless. These days people go after it purely for its look — the distinctive "bony" silhouette with runic carvings is rare among staves and fits dark themes well.
Source
The staff drops from the rare enemy Zal'kir the Chosen, an Aqir that appears in the Thaldraszus zone, roughly at coordinates 59.8, 70.6.
- Zal'kir the Chosen is tied to the Time Rifts event, added in patch 10.1.5.
- The event takes place in the Tyrhold Reservoir in the center of Thaldraszus and starts every hour.
- To get inside, talk to Soridormi at coordinates 51.1, 57.1 — she instantly teleports you into the event phase.
- Zal'kir respawns inside the rift roughly every 5–6 minutes, so you can kill him several times in a single run.
- He drops one of three runic items from the set, so it may take several attempts to get the staff specifically.
Coordinates for the route:
No group is needed: at level 90 Zal'kir is killed effortlessly solo. The item binds to your character on pickup, so decide in advance which hero you want to collect the appearance on.
Who It Suits Visually
- Great for dark caster looks: the crimson runes and skull look excellent on a Warlock and a Shadow Priest.
- Harmonizes with red-and-black sets — for example, cloth sets built around shades of blood and bone.
- Contrasts strikingly with light armor: the bone staff becomes a grim accent in a Druid or Shaman look.
- Thematically close to the weapon set of the Aqir and the ancient insect empires — a fitting addition to an "ancient evil" transmog.
Tips
Enter the Time Rifts at the start of the hour: the event starts on schedule, so you won't waste time waiting.
Use Zal'kir's short respawn: stay at his spawn point and kill him repeatedly in a single run while the rift phase is active.
Bring a fast class with good mobility — a Paladin or Evoker reaches the spawn point inside the phase quicker.
Remember that the enemy drops one of three set items, so plan for several attempts for the staff specifically.
Collect the appearance on the character who actually needs it: the item binds on pickup.
If the appearance is already learned, a repeat drop can be sold or disenchanted — it no longer affects your collection.
