Get Blood-Tempered Ranseur
Overview

Blood-Tempered Ranseur is a two-handed polearm that first appeared back in The Burning Crusade expansion. It is the ceremonial spear of the Blood Knight order of Silvermoon: a long blade with crimson edging and a dark haft mark it as a weapon forged for the defenders of the Sin'dorei.
Originally, the ranseur was awarded to blood elf paladins as a reward for their training in Silvermoon. In patch 4.0.3a the corresponding quest chain was removed from the game, and the item itself became unobtainable. Those who managed to acquire the weapon before then still see its appearance in their transmogrification collection. For everyone else, the very same model is available through a modern item — more on that below.
Visually, it has a compact, austere silhouette without excessive ornamentation: the weapon reads as the symbol of a martial order rather than a trophy. That is exactly why the appearance is prized for paladin looks and Blood Knight themed sets.
Source
The Blood-Tempered Ranseur itself no longer drops and is no longer awarded for a quest — the old blood elf paladin training chain was cut in patch 4.0.3a. If the item ever sat in your bags, its appearance stays in your collection forever, even if the weapon was sold long ago.
For everyone who wants to add this model now, there is a modern item with the same appearance —
Fallen Knight's Ranseur. It unlocks the same illusion for transmogrification and is bound to the warband collection, meaning it becomes available to every character on your account.
Here is how to get it:
- Take a blood elf character and complete the Sin'dorei heritage chain. Starting it requires level 60 and Exalted reputation with Silvermoon City.
- During the story you will travel to the Dead Scar — an undead stronghold in the south of the Ghostlands.
- The Fallen Knight's Ranseur lies by the body of a fallen Blood Knight paladin. The coordinates of the point are
/way #Ghostlands 34.8 81.8. - Pick up the weapon and use it — the illusion will be added to your warband's transmogrification collection.
This is precisely why the appearance is considered "restored": the original reward disappeared, but the model was preserved and tied to the heritage chain.
Who It Suits Visually
- Ideal for blood elf paladin looks and any costumes themed around the Blood Knights of Silvermoon.
- It pairs with the red-and-black Sin'dorei heritage armor — the set and the weapon were designed as a single ensemble.
- It stands out against golden paladin plate armor: the crimson blade adds an aggressive accent to the look.
- It suits "austere" martial looks without decorative overload — the understated model does not compete with an elaborate shoulderpiece or cloak.
Tips
If you played a blood elf before 2010 and remember the paladin training in Silvermoon, check your transmogrification collection first: the appearance may already be unlocked.
The heritage chain requires Exalted reputation with Silvermoon, so raise your standing ahead of time through Horde tasks and old Sin'dorei quests.
Heritage weapons are warband-bound — completing the chain once unlocks the appearance for all of your characters at the same time.
Pick up the Fallen Knight's Ranseur only after the corresponding stage of the heritage chain activates the paladin's body — otherwise the point will not be interactive.
The point with the weapon is deep inside the Dead Scar among the undead — for a peaceful pickup it is more convenient to come with a character above the zone's level.
The appearance looks equally good on any specialization able to wield a polearm, so use it for warrior or undead-hunter looks as well.
