Overview

Boundless Agony

Game iconBoundless Agony is an epic-quality one-handed dagger added in The Burning Crusade expansion alongside the Hyjal Summit raid. In terms of stats it is a light weapon with a 1.80 speed and a distinctive "curved" blade silhouette, rendered in reddish-steel tones with a twisted bone hilt — a model born from the era of Illidan and the Burning Legion's invasion.

For the modern player, the appearance itself is the main value. The model belongs to the recognizable series of slender ritual daggers from that period — a narrow, slightly curved blade, a dark guard, and a tight wrap on the hilt. The "inv_weapon_shortblade_59" icon matches exactly this silhouette and is used only for a handful of TBC-era items.

The dagger is bind-on-pickup and can be equipped by any class that uses daggers: rogue, warlock, mage, priest, druid, and shaman. For a transmog collection only the model itself matters — after the first acquisition it unlocks in the wardrobe tab and becomes available to all eligible characters on the account.

Source

The item drops from the boss Azgalor — the fourth and final boss of the Horde camp in the Hyjal Summit raid. This is a 25-player raid from The Burning Crusade expansion, located in the Caverns of Time.

  • The drop chance according to Wowhead is about 22.94%.
  • It is bind-on-pickup and cannot be traded from an alt — enter directly on the character you need.
  • There is only one difficulty — the original 25-player TBC mode.
  • Limit: one raid clear per week per character.
  • At max level the raid is fully soloed in 30–40 minutes, including the five enemy waves before each of the bosses.
  • Raid entrance coordinates: /way 3520 63 52 (Caverns of Time, Tanaris).

To reach Hyjal Summit, fly to Tanaris and descend into the Caverns of Time along the winding path. Inside the caverns, find the portal to the Battle for Mount Hyjal — it is located in the far part of the area, past the Black Morass portal. Before entering the raid the player goes through a short conversation with Soridormi the Time Guardian, which starts the instance.

Azgalor appears after eight waves of defense at the Horde camp — the third and final defensive point before the raid's final boss. Before him you need to clear all three previous bosses and the first two defense bases (the Alliance camp and the central Horde camp). At the modern max level, the waves are cleared with mass area damage within minutes.

Additionally, Azgalor drops other transmog items from the raid — a shield, a dagger, a staff, and a plate belt. If the goal of the run is only Boundless Agony, it is best to pick a class with high single-target burst damage to kill the boss itself faster after clearing the waves.

Who It Suits Visually

  • Rogue and warlock looks from The Burning Crusade era, built on the dark-red and steel shades of Black Temple and Sunwell armor.
  • Tier 6 and 6.5 sets — collections from Illidan, Kil'jaeden, and the Hyjal Summit bosses, where demonic motifs and crimson accents dominate.
  • Demonology warlock builds: the thin, curved blade reads well as a ritual knife in the caster's hand.
  • Stealthy rogue builds in dark tones — the dagger serves as a pair to another dark blade of the same era and creates a symmetrical silhouette.
  • Contrast with light cloth robes in pale shades: against white or gold armor the crimson-steel model works as a striking accent in the hand.

Tips

1

The fastest classes for the weekly run are the demon hunter, monk, and rogue: they all have mass leaps and quick movement between enemy waves.

2

Before Azgalor stand waves of undead and demons across three bases in a row, so keep mass area-damage abilities ready — this cuts the run down by one and a half to two times.

3

If the dagger does not drop on the main run, at max level the raid is easily cleared again: the limit is one clear per week per character, so over a month you can make four attempts on one character and just as many on alts.

4

While farming this dagger, also grab Azgalor's other rewards: he drops other transmog items from the raid, as well as a chance at the "Enchant Weapon — Major Might" formula.

5

Before entering the raid, make sure you have activated the flight point above Tanaris — the shortest route to the Caverns of Time goes by air from Gadgetzan.

6

The item is bind-on-pickup and cannot be transferred from an alt to your main — enter directly on the character you need.

7

If you want to close out the entire series of The Burning Crusade-era daggers in one go, after Hyjal Summit it makes sense to enter Black Temple for the models from Illidan and his retinue — both locations are in Outland and connected by fast travel through Shattrath.
