Get Bow of the Ranger Captain
Overview

Bow of the Ranger Captain is an epic cosmetic bow added to World of Warcraft with update 10.2.7 as part of the Dark Heart campaign, which served as a narrative bridge to The War Within. It is a purely cosmetic item: it has no combat stats and exists solely for its appearance in the transmogrification system.
The model is crafted in the style of the Windrunner artifact bow: a graceful, elongated stave with elven ornamentation, along which dark threads of the Void flow. When fired, the bow releases Void arrows with a purple-black glow, making it one of the few bows with a pronounced Void effect. The appearance is directly tied to Alleria Windrunner and is considered one of the latest versions of her legendary bow.
The appearance is account-bound and available to any specialization that uses bows in the ranged weapon slot — first and foremost, hunters.
Source
The bow is a guaranteed reward for completing the "Hunt the Harbinger" story chain, a chapter of the Dark Heart campaign. It is not a drop: you only need to complete the quests once, and the appearance is unlocked permanently.
- The chain begins with the quest "The Harbinger": once you reach the max level of the corresponding expansion, you can pick it up automatically by heading to Khadgar and Alleria in the Chamber of the Guardian in Dalaran above the Broken Isles.
- The bow itself is granted for the quest "Null and Void" — the second-to-last in the chapter. In it, you need to defeat a corrupted copy of Turalyon in Telogrus Rift.
- Completing the entire chain also grants the achievement "Hunt the Harbinger".
- The chain is done solo and is available once per character, but the appearance, once unlocked, is shared across the entire account.
- The content is story-based and not tied to weekly lockouts: you can complete the chain at any time that suits you.
Visual Suitability
- It perfectly complements looks in the dark-purple and blue-black Void palette — especially void elf sets.
- It harmonizes with armor featuring purple and lilac accents, echoing the color of the Void arrows.
- It looks great in "ranger" and elven looks thanks to the graceful Windrunner-style stave.
- It contrasts strikingly with dark leather armor, where the bow's purple glow becomes the main accent.
- It suits hunters who want a bow with a pronounced magical effect rather than a neutral wooden model.
Tips
To start the chain, the easiest way is to teleport to Dalaran above the Broken Isles and speak with Alleria and Khadgar in the Chamber of the Guardian.
If the quest "The Harbinger" does not appear automatically, check that your character has reached the required level — this is the only requirement to start.
The whole chapter is done solo and takes about half an hour on average, so there is no need to assemble a separate group.
In addition to the bow, the chain grants a set of Void weapon appearances and a dragon dyeing manuscript — it is worth completing it for all the rewards at once.
The appearance is shared across the account: it is enough to unlock it with one character for the bow to become available to all your hunters.
For the fight in the quest "Null and Void", any combat specialization will do — the enemy is designed for solo completion.
