Overview

Brutal Gladiator's Greatsword

Game iconBrutal Gladiator's Greatsword is a two-handed sword from the reward arsenal of Arena Season 4 in The Burning Crusade expansion. It is a massive blade with a wide serrated edge and the dark-steel finish typical of the "brutal gladiator" series, accented by crimson inlays near the guard. The model echoes the silhouette of the elite arena rewards of that era and is easy to recognize from a distance.

The weapon is of "epic" rarity and was once awarded for arena victories at the appropriate rating. Today it is valued purely as a transmog: the item's stats have long been obsolete, but its appearance remains one of the most recognizable in the line of The Burning Crusade gladiator weaponry.

Source

Originally the sword was purchased for arena honor points and required a personal and team rating from Season 4. After the transmogrification system was added, the old weapons were moved to a special vendor, and today no rating is needed to buy it.

The sword is sold by the vendor Blaze Magmaburn, a goblin who stocks legacy Season 4 PvP gear. You can find him in the Netherstorm zone, in the goblin town of Area 52.

Key purchase details:

  • The currency is the Game iconMark of Honor. This badge drops from dungeon and raid bosses, and can also be bought for honor points from PvP vendors.
  • The price for a two-handed weapon is 80 Marks of Honor.
  • Rating and faction allegiance do not matter: the vendor is available to both the Alliance and the Horde.
  • The appearance is unlocked in your appearance collection immediately after the item is purchased and bound.

Who It Suits Visually

  • It harmonizes with the Season 4 plate sets of the same gladiator line — the dark steel and crimson accents come together into a cohesive look.
  • It looks great on warriors and death knights in dark-red armor thanks to the matching palette.
  • It contrasts with light and gold sets — the blade will look like a deliberately "villainous" accent.
  • It fits the concepts of arena fighters and mercenaries from the Outland era.

Tips

1

Stock up on Marks of Honor in advance: one mark can be obtained from old dungeon bosses, so the fastest way to farm them is by clearing The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King dungeons.

2

In a single trip to the vendor it is convenient to buy several appearances from the series at once — this way you cover the sword, the axe, and the staff for different specializations.

3

The appearance is bound to your account through the collection, so there is no need to buy it again on other characters.

4

The easiest route to the vendor is via the teleport to Shattrath and a flight to Netherstorm — the town of Area 52 is in the central part of the zone.

5

Check that you have the "sword" weapon class unlocked: the appearance can only be applied to a two-handed sword.

6

If you are assembling a complete gladiator look, also buy the Season 4 plate set from the same vendor — he sells both armor and weapons.

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
