Get Bryntroll, the Bone Arbiter
Overview

Bryntroll, the Bone Arbiter is an epic two-handed axe that originates from the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. The model is a massive bone head with a serrated ivory-colored blade mounted on a dark haft — a weapon that looks assembled from remains, which perfectly reflects the undead theme of the Scourge.
The axe's signature feature is its built-in
Drain Life effect, which has a chance on melee hit to steal health from the target and transfer it to the wielder. Back in the day, this made Bryntroll one of the most coveted weapons for death knights and warriors.
The axe suits any class that uses two-handed weapons: death knights, warriors, paladins, as well as monks and shamans in the appropriate specializations.
Source
Bryntroll drops in the Icecrown Citadel raid — the final raid of Wrath of the Lich King, located in Icecrown (Northrend).
- The axe is obtained from the raid's first boss — Lord Marrowgar. This is the first obstacle on the way deeper into the citadel, and it is easy to find.
- There are two versions of the appearance sharing the same model. The normal version drops on Normal difficulty, while the
heroic version drops on Heroic. - The drop chance is around 4% for the normal version and around 17% for the heroic version on the respective difficulty.
- The item becomes soulbound on acquisition, so you can only pick it up with your own character.
- Coordinates of the entrance to the boss:
/way #4812 38.9 59.8.
The raid can be soloed without any trouble at the current level — Lord Marrowgar dies in mere seconds. The raid resets once a week, so if luck is not on your side you can come back for the axe every week.
Visual fit
- It fits perfectly into looks built around the theme of the undead and the Scourge — death knight sets from the same Icecrown Citadel.
- The bone, white-cream palette pairs well with dark armor: black and charcoal pieces emphasize the light blade.
- It harmonizes with icy and blue tones — for example, with Northrend-styled sets.
- It suits necromancer and dark knight looks thanks to its grim "assembled from bones" aesthetic.
Tips
You can guarantee unlocking both appearances by entering Icecrown Citadel on both Normal and Heroic difficulty — these are two separate items for your transmog collection.
Lord Marrowgar stands at the very beginning of the raid, so the run for the axe takes less than a minute.
For fast farming, classes with high mobility and strong burst damage are convenient, but at the current level literally any class will manage.
If the axe does not drop within a week, reset the raid and try again the following week.
Lord Marrowgar also drops other loot from Icecrown Citadel, so collect the other appearances from the first block of bosses while you are at it.
Do not forget that the normal and heroic versions are separate entries in the collection, and both are worth adding to your appearance journal.
