Overview

Buzz

Game iconBuzz is an uncommon flying mount added to World of Warcraft in the Shadowlands expansion (patch 9.2 "Eternity's End"). It is a silver-and-black primordial vespoid wasp, created through the Protoform Synthesis system in Zereth Mortis.

To obtain the mount, you need to acquire Game iconSchematic: Buzz from the Pulp-Covered Relic treasure, gather a set of components and activate the recipe at the Protoform Forge. The entire chain can be completed solo at level 90.

Why you want this mount

  • Flying model — Buzz uses the form of a primordial vespoid, distinct from WoW's standard insects. It is one of the most distinctive wasps in the game, with glowing wings and a unique buzzing sound
  • Full flight speed — the mount inherits your flying riding skill, so on a max-level character it flies with +150%, +280% or +310% acceleration depending on the skill you have learned
  • Account-wide — once crafted, the mount appears in the collection of all your characters, regardless of faction and class
  • No loot lock farming — the Pulp-Covered Relic has no weekly limit, so you can open it regularly until the schematic drops
  • Zereth Mortis content available indefinitely — after Shadowlands ended, the 9.2 content remains relevant. You can return to Protoform Synthesis at the current max level and assemble the mount at a comfortable pace

How to get

To obtain the mount you need to sequentially unlock the Protoform Synthesis system, acquire the schematic and gather the reagents.

  1. Complete the Zereth Mortis campaign at least up to chapter 3 and unlock the Cypher Console to gain access to Protoform Synthesis
  2. Research the "Dealic Understanding" and then "Sopranian Understanding" branches to unlock the crafting of pets and mounts through the Forge
  3. Find and open the Pulp-Covered Relic near the vespoid hives. On each interaction the relic is knocked back, summoning three enraged vespoids. After the third "kick" it can be looted
  4. With a chance to drop, you obtain Game iconSchematic: Buzz. The schematic starts the quest Restoring the Schematic: Buzz
  5. Gather the reagents: 500 Game iconGenesis Motes, 1 Game iconVespoid Lattice and 1 Game iconProtoform Sentience Crown
  6. Bring the schematic to the protoform collector and craft Game iconBuzz with a single click

Reagents for crafting

Gathering the components is the main time sink in the farm. All reagents drop in Zereth Mortis, but at different drop rates.

Reagent Quantity Where to obtain
Game iconSchematic: Buzz 1 Rare drop from the Pulp-Covered Relic
Game iconGenesis Mote 500 Drop from nearly all Zereth Mortis mobs, quest rewards and rares
Game iconVespoid Lattice 1 All vespoids in Zereth Mortis, higher chance from elite and rare enemies
Game iconProtoform Sentience Crown 1 Subjugated automa and djaradin, higher chance from elite versions

To start Protoform Synthesis you also need to research two branches at the Cypher Console: "Dealic Understanding" (200 cyphers, researched in 3 days 18 hours) and "Sopranian Understanding" (220 cyphers, 5 days 18 hours). Without the second branch, mount schematics do not drop.

Requirements and preparation

  • Character level 60 and above — Zereth Mortis quests are designed for the Shadowlands max level. At the current level 90 the content is completed without difficulty
  • Completed patch 9.2 campaign — you must progress through the story until you gain access to the Cypher Console and the Protoform Synthesis quest
  • Free bag space — relics and mobs leave a lot of junk, so periodically return to a vendor
  • WeakAuras add-ons — track the zone's treasures and rares. Popular strings are available on wago.io and mirror the information with icons on the map

Where to find Pulp-Covered Relics

The relics are scattered across the entire zone near the vespoid hives. The most reliable spawn points:

  • 42.0, 34.2 — the hives near Haven
  • 53.4, 25.8 — the central hives of the zone
  • 52.8, 45.8 — the eastern part of the Archive of the Creation
  • 50.3, 41.2 — the plains of the Sopranian Fields
  • 64.3, 63.4 — the southern hives near the Catacombs

The points respawn roughly every 20–40 minutes. Running the route takes 10–15 minutes on a mount with full flight speed.

Farm optimization

Parallel gathering of all components

Don't limit yourself to a single activity — while flying the relic route, knock out your daily quests and kill vespoids along the way. In a single loop you will accumulate Game iconGenesis Motes, a chance at the Game iconVespoid Lattice and open 2–3 relics.

  1. Fly the route of the vespoid hives in the western and central parts of the zone
  2. Kill elite and rare vespoids for an increased chance at the exoskeleton
  3. Open relics, getting a chance at the schematic
  4. Along the way, complete daily quests for Game iconGenesis Motes and cyphers

Farming the Protoform Sentience Crown

The Game iconProtoform Sentience Crown drops from subjugated automatons and djaradin. The best spot is the "Dangerous Conditions" daily quest chain, where subjugated djaradin stand in dense groups and respawn quickly. 20–25 spawn points are within one minute of flight.

  • Complete the daily quest each day and keep farming djaradin after turning in the quest
  • Prioritize the elite versions — their crown chance is noticeably higher
  • Also look for Lorash among the guaranteed sources of the crown

Multi-farming reagents

The schematic binds on pickup and drops once per relic, but the motes and exoskeleton are sellable and tradeable. It is worth stocking up on alt characters:

  • A reserve of Game iconGenesis Motes — easily farmed on an alt and sent to your main
  • Spare Game iconVespoid Lattices can be sold on the auction house if you have already collected all the vespoids

Tips

1

Research both cypher branches in advance — "Dealic Understanding" and "Sopranian Understanding" take more than 9 days combined to research, so start them as early as possible. Mount schematics do not drop until the research is finished

2

Kick the relic with mana and health to spare — each of the three waves summons three enraged vespoids. In total the fight stretches to 9 mobs. Keep your replenishment ready

3

Farm during peak hours — on European realms the relics in the central part of the zone are often contested. Early mornings or late evenings let you run the route without competition

4

Gather the guaranteed reagents — while you wait for the schematic to drop, stock up on the remaining components. This will shorten the time between getting the schematic and crafting the mount
