Captured Umber Nightsaber

Umber Nightsaber is a ground mount added to World of Warcraft in patch 8.1 "Tides of Vengeance" of the Battle for Azeroth expansion. In appearance it is a large kaldorei nightsaber of a dark brown color in battle harness: a caparison, saddles with night elf ornamentation and pronounced fangs set it apart from the ordinary sabers of the zone.

The mount shares its model with the ground reward from the Battle for Darkshore Warfront — the night elf sabers raised by Tyrande Whisperwind's army during the Alliance counteroffensive.

The mount drops only from one specific rare NPC — Moxo the Beheader — and only when the Darkshore zone is under Alliance control. For the Horde, a mirrored rare NPC with its own set of rewards spawns during the same game week, and this saber becomes unavailable until the next cycle.

• Tied to the Battle for Azeroth story — Darkshore became the arena of one of the expansion's most notable conflicts after the burning of Teldrassil, and the mount is a tangible trophy of that confrontation
• Speed 10 out of 10 — the saber gets the standard ground mount bonus and rides at +60% or +100% speed depending on your riding skill
• Available account-wide — once obtained, the mount appears in the collection of all your characters on the server, regardless of faction and class. An Alliance character unlocks it even for your Horde side
• Requires attention to the cycle — the rare NPC can be attacked only once per Warfront cycle, which turns it into a serious long-term project and makes the mount a measure of your persistence

The path to the mount consists of two stages: activate access to the Darkshore Warfront phase and kill the rare NPC Moxo the Beheader while the Alliance controls the zone.

1. Level an Alliance character to at least level 50. At level 90 (the current cap in Midnight) the content is fully soloable and poses no threat
2. Complete the introductory Battle for Darkshore quest chain at the War Table in the Boralus docks. The chain unlocks after completing the main Battle for Azeroth story campaign
3. Wait for the phase when the Alliance attacks or holds the zone. The cycle alternates once every two weeks: half the cycle is the fight for the zone (Warfront open), half is the "peaceful" period when the winning faction's rare NPCs spawn across the zone
4. Complete the Battle for Darkshore scenario through the Warfront queue or wait for the post-scenario phase in which farming rare NPCs is possible
5. Head to Darkshore and find Moxo the Beheader in the northeastern part of the zone, at the foot of the mountains on the road to the cave
6. Defeat him and inspect the loot — with a small chance the Captured Umber Nightsaber drops

Darkshore is not an ordinary zone but a contested Warfront territory. Control over it alternates between the Alliance and the Horde, and this is exactly what determines which rare NPCs will be active and which rewards are available.

Cycle phases

A full cycle takes two weeks. To obtain the Captured Umber Nightsaber you need the Alliance phase — attack or hold.

Moxo the Beheader is a rare level 51 NPC from the Spearbreaker tribe, available only during Alliance holding or attack. He does not stand still — the patrol route runs from the gate at the base of the mountain in the northeastern part of the zone up to the cave higher on the slope.

Points to check

1. The road from the gate in the northeastern part of Darkshore (approximately 63, 20) — the main route
2. The cave entrance higher up the slope — Moxo regularly goes inside and comes back out
3. If you haven't found him on the route — wait 5–10 minutes or make a loop: he may have just been killed by another player and is in the respawn phase

What to do if he has already been killed

The rare NPC respawns once every few hours. If the loot from him has already been obtained — there's no need to wait for the next Warfront cycle: the loot lock is personal and tied only to your character. Other players can kill Moxo many times if he hasn't dropped the mount for them yet.

Rotation across several characters

The loot lock works per character, so the classic way to speed up farming is to bring in several Alliance alts level 50+. Each character has an independent chance to obtain the mount once per cycle.

1. Level 2–3 Alliance alts to at least level 50
2. On each one complete the introductory chain at the War Table in Boralus
3. During each Alliance phase, run Moxo's route on every character

Wait for the right phase

If the Warfront is currently in the Horde phase, don't waste time flying around the zone — Moxo the Beheader won't appear there. The best time to farm is the first days after the Alliance switches to holding the zone, when other hunters haven't yet had time to sweep all the points.
