Caravan Hyena
Overview

Caravan Hyena is a ground mount added to World of Warcraft in the Battle for Azeroth expansion (patch 8.3, "Visions of N'Zoth"). It is the racial mount of the Vulpera allied race: a spotted desert hyena carrying a colorful tent-canopy on its back, styled after the caravans of Vol'dun. Once you successfully unlock the Vulpera, the mount becomes available to every Horde character on your account, regardless of race and class.
The mount is granted as the reward for the final quest of the allied race unlock chain — Allied Races: Vulpera. In addition, when you create your first Vulpera character, you receive the Vulpera Tabard. A distinctive detail: the Vulpera have a racial ability called "Make Camp" that lets them remove or restore the canopy on their mount's back. Characters of other Horde races ride only the version with the canopy.
Why you want this mount
- Unique model — a desert hyena with a cloth canopy, one of the most recognizable Horde racial mounts, standing out among the standard wolves and kodos
- Unlocks an allied race — obtaining the mount comes bundled with unlocking the Vulpera, one of the most popular allied races thanks to their compact model and set of racial abilities
- Available to all of the Horde — the mount is added to your shared account collection, and every character of the Horde faction can use it, even without creating a Vulpera
- Accompanying rewards — besides the mount, you receive the Vulpera Tabard, and by leveling a Vulpera to level 50 you earn the Vulpera heritage achievement and a unique heritage set
- Reduced requirements — since patch 10.1.5 the unlock has been greatly simplified: you need neither Exalted with the Voldunai nor the Secrets in the Sands achievement
- Speed 10 out of 10 — the mount grants a +60% or +100% bonus to ground movement speed, depending on your riding skill
Requirements
To start the unlock chain, all you need is a Horde character at level 40. All the previous strict requirements — Exalted with the Voldunai and the Secrets in the Sands achievement — were removed in patch 10.1.5. Thanks to this, the whole process takes only a few hours instead of weeks of reputation farming.
How to obtain — step-by-step instructions
The entire path to the mount boils down to completing the scenario of welcoming the Vulpera into the Horde. First of all, make sure you have a level 40 Horde character and no unfinished steps of the chain — otherwise the required quests will not appear.
- Head to the Horde Embassy in Orgrimmar. It is located above the Gates of Wisdom, in the upper part of the city
- Speak with Ji Firepaw in the embassy. If the conditions are met, he will offer you a quest to meet the Vulpera
- Complete the introductory quest chain to meet the Vulpera representatives in Orgrimmar. At this stage you will meet Kiro, Nisha and Meerah
- Complete the main block of the chain: the quests take you between Orgrimmar, the Twilight Highlands, Zuldazar and Suramar. The tasks are carried out alongside your potential allies
- Complete the final scenario — Kiro receives the blessing of the tauren and the Vulpera are officially welcomed into the Horde
- Finish the quest Allied Races: Vulpera: as a reward, the Caravan Hyena is added to your collection and the achievement Allied Races: Vulpera is unlocked
After earning the achievement, the Vulpera race will appear in the character creation menu. If you decide to create one of your own, you will additionally receive the Vulpera Tabard.
More about the quest chain
The Vulpera unlock chain is one of the most extensive in Battle for Azeroth, around 20-25 quests, but they are all completed without combat and without item gathering. The main workload is traveling between zones and listening to dialogue.
- Introductions in Orgrimmar — the first quests take place in the embassy and the harbor of Orgrimmar
- Supporting Kiro — visiting Zuldazar and helping the Vulpera stranded in the city of Zuldazar
- Guests of friendly factions — a visit to the Twilight Highlands and Suramar, a demonstration of diplomacy
- Final scenario — returning to Orgrimmar, the ceremonial welcome by Baine Bloodhoof, his approval and the awarding of the
Caravan Hyena
If you have already completed the Allied Races call for previous allied races, the Vulpera chain will proceed in an already familiar rhythm.
Useful tips
- Check the embassy first — if Ji Firepaw is not handing out the quest, make sure you have completed the introductory embassy quest and reached level 40. In some cases logging back into the game after reaching the required level helps
- No need to complete Vol'dun — since patch 10.1.5 the Secrets in the Sands achievement requirement has been removed. You do not need to complete the Vol'dun storyline, but it is useful for immersing yourself in the lore of the Vulpera
- A mount for the whole Horde — you do not have to create a Vulpera character to use the mount. It is enough to complete the scenario on any Horde character of level 40+
- Earn "Vulpera Heritage" — if you level a new Vulpera from 10 to 50 without a paid boost, you unlock the Vulpera heritage achievement and a heritage gear set. This is a separate transmog set
- The mount works only on the ground — unlike dragons and dynamic mounts, the hyena does not fly. For long flights, use your own flying mounts
- The tent-canopy — a character of the Vulpera race has the racial ability Make Camp, which lets you remove the canopy from the mount. Characters of other Horde races ride only the version with the canopy
- The simplified chain saves time — the current version of the chain takes a new player 1-2 hours if you strictly follow the quest markers
