Get Ced's Carver
Overview

Ced's Carver is a one-handed dagger of rare quality that arrived in World of Warcraft alongside The Burning Crusade expansion. It is a short blade with a plain metal hilt and a compact curved edge, free of decorative inlays or glow — a no-frills "working" knife in the spirit of the early Outland era.
The dagger occupies the one-handed weapon slot and suits specs that use daggers: rogues, druids, shamans, mages, warlocks and priests in the role of light-blade wielders. From a transmogrification standpoint only the appearance itself matters — the item's stats stopped being relevant long ago.
Source
Ced's Carver drops from trash mobs on the way to the first boss of the Karazhan raid — specifically from spectral chargers in the Stables area that leads to Attumen the Huntsman.
- The main source is the Spectral Charger, an elite level 71 undead mob that spawns in the Stables of Karazhan.
- Karazhan is a ten-player raid from The Burning Crusade era, located in the Deadwind Pass zone in the south of the Eastern Kingdoms.
- Ced's Carver has a low drop chance — it is a rare blue item in the shared loot table of the spectral chargers, and targeted farming usually takes several runs.
- The dagger binds on equip, so it can be picked up by any character on your account and handed off to the hero you need through the bank or mail.
- There are no hard farming limits: trash respawns within a single location, and the raid itself can be reset after leaving the dungeon.
To reach Karazhan you need to travel to Deadwind Pass and make your way to the foot of Medivh's tower. In the past, entry required a long quest chain for the Karazhan key, but in modern versions of the game that barrier has been removed — you can walk straight in.
The Stables are the first large raid area after the entrance platform. On the way to Attumen the Huntsman you will encounter spectral stablehands, spectral chargers and spectral wardens: it is the chargers that drop Ced's Carver. A full clear of the path to Attumen usually takes 5–10 minutes at modern level.
The raid content is long outdated and can be soloed on a current-level character without trouble: trash dies fast, and Attumen the Huntsman goes down in one or two pulls.
Alternatives
Ced's Carver has no known color recolors with separate item IDs — it is a standalone dagger model from The Burning Crusade era. If you want this exact look, you will have to farm it specifically from the spectral chargers.
Variants similar in silhouette and theme are worth seeking among other blue daggers from the Karazhan raid and general blue daggers in the same level range:
- Other blue daggers that drop from Karazhan trash mobs share the same short combat-blade styling and serve as good substitutes for Ced's Carver if it does not drop.
- Blue daggers from Outland dungeons with a similar model and color scheme suit the same outfits as Ced's Carver.
- If you need an exact visual analog, the most convenient option is the transmogrification section on Wowhead with the weapon-type filter set to "Daggers": the items there are grouped by appearance, so you can see every blade on the same model.
Who It Suits Visually
- Suits mercenary rogue or bandit looks: the plain unadorned blade pairs well with dark, earthy leather sets.
- Harmonizes with the light armor of simple "travelling" sets — for example, the starter leather sets of the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor.
- Fits ranger or wilderness-dweller concepts, where the weapon should look utilitarian rather than ceremonial.
- Contrasts with bulky plate armor: next to heavy gear a small dagger looks questionable, so it is better taken for light concepts.
- Works well as a paired weapon for a rogue: two identical compact models create a tidy, symmetrical silhouette.
Tips
Enter Karazhan solo on a current-level character: the level 71 trash mob dies in one hit, and the whole path to Attumen the Huntsman takes mere minutes.
The target farming spot is the raid's Stables: kill the Spectral Chargers specifically, because Ced's Carver drops only from them, not from the stablehands or wardens.
To farm the same area again, leave the raid and reset the dungeon through the group interface — after that the trash and boss will appear anew.
Alongside Ced's Carver, clearing the Stables gives a chance at the
Fiery Warhorse's Reins mount from Attumen the Huntsman, so always finish off the boss at the end of the run.
The dagger binds on equip, so it can be farmed by a transmog-collecting character and passed through the bank to the hero you need on your account.
The appearance is unlocked in your transmogrification collection forever after you first obtain the item: you will not need to hunt the dagger again for the same look.
There are no hard attempt limits: you can farm once a week on several characters or back to back via dungeon reset.
It is most convenient to farm on classes with fast movement and strong single-target damage: rogue, hunter, paladin and druid clear the Stables fastest.
