Cenarion War Hippogryph

Cenarion War Hippogryph is a flying mount added in The Burning Crusade expansion (patch 2.3). It is a majestic hippogryph in a green-and-turquoise color scheme, one of the first flying mounts of its kind in the game. The mount is purchased for gold from a vendor of the Cenarion Expedition faction once you reach Exalted reputation.

In lore, the members of the Cenarion Circle have maintained an alliance with hippogryphs for centuries. When conflict cannot be avoided, war hippogryphs are called into service — and this mount is exactly one of them.

• Obtaining it unlocks the achievement of the same name, Cenarion War Hippogryph
• Available to both factions — the Alliance and the Horde
• Supports both ground and air travel (speed depends on your riding skill)
• Relatively easy to obtain — it requires no random drop; you just need to grind reputation and pay the gold

• A character of level 10 or higher
• Riding skill: Apprentice (ground travel) or Expert (for flight)
• Cenarion Expedition reputation at Exalted
• 1,600 gold (the price with the Exalted discount; the base price is 2,000 gold)

The mount is sold by Fedryen Swiftspear, the Cenarion Expedition quartermaster. He is located at Cenarion Refuge in Zangarmarsh (Outland).

Zangarmarsh is a marshy zone in Outland. To reach it:

1. Through the Dark Portal: head to Hellfire Peninsula via the Dark Portal in the Blasted Lands. From your faction's stronghold, travel west into Zangarmarsh.
2. Through a capital city portal: use the portal to Shattrath (available in Stormwind and Orgrimmar), then fly north into Zangarmarsh.
3. Flight path: if you have previously discovered the flight path at Cenarion Refuge, you can simply fly there from any connected flight point in Outland.

Cenarion Refuge is located in the central part of Zangarmarsh, on the shore of a lake.

To reach Exalted you will need to earn a total of 39,000 reputation points (from Neutral):

Cenarion Expedition quests are scattered across several Outland zones:

In total, quests grant roughly 16,200–18,000 reputation, which is enough to reach about the middle of Revered.

Dungeons

The Coilfang Reservoir dungeons in Zangarmarsh are the main source of reputation after you finish the quests:

Important: on Normal mode, The Slave Pens and The Underbog stop granting reputation after Friendly. The Steamvault on Normal mode grants reputation all the way to Exalted, which makes it the best farming option. On Heroic mode, all three dungeons grant reputation up to Exalted.

Turning In Items

Alongside dungeons you can turn in items you find:

• Unidentified Plant Parts — turned in to Launa Darkmane (coordinates 79.2, 63.8 in Zangarmarsh) in batches of 10. Each turn-in grants 250 reputation. It only works up to Honored. The items can be bought at the auction house.
• Uncatalogued Species — randomly drop when you turn in Unidentified Plant Parts. Each sample grants 500 reputation and works up to Exalted.
• Coilfang Armaments — drop from mobs in the Coilfang Reservoir dungeons. They are turned in to Ysiel Windsinger at Cenarion Refuge. The first turn-in grants 250 reputation, subsequent ones grant 75 reputation each. They work up to Exalted.

Stage 1: Neutral → Honored

1. Start by buying Unidentified Plant Parts at the auction house (360 of them, or 330 for humans with the +10% reputation racial bonus). Turn them in to Launa Darkmane in Zangarmarsh — this quickly raises your reputation to Honored.
2. In parallel, complete Cenarion Expedition quests in Zangarmarsh and on Hellfire Peninsula.
3. Run the Coilfang Reservoir dungeons — any of them on Normal mode.

Stage 2: Honored → Revered

1. Complete the remaining quests in Terokkar Forest, Blade's Edge Mountains and Netherstorm.
2. Turn in any Uncatalogued Species you have accumulated.
3. Run The Steamvault on Normal mode — it continues to grant reputation.

Stage 3: Revered → Exalted

1. Run The Steamvault on Heroic mode — this is the most efficient method.
2. Turn in the Coilfang Armaments you have accumulated while farming dungeons.
3. Buy additional Coilfang Armaments at the auction house if you want to speed up the process (you will need roughly 280–440 for the full stage).

• The Steamvault is your best friend. It is the only Coilfang dungeon that grants reputation on Normal mode up to Exalted. At level 80 you clear it in a few minutes.
• Mind the instance limit. You can enter no more than 10 instances per hour. The Steamvault is cleared very quickly at level 80, so you risk hitting this limit.
• Buy items at the auction house. Unidentified Plant Parts and Coilfang Armaments are traded between players. If you have gold, this significantly speeds up the grind.
• Humans get a +10% bonus to reputation gains thanks to the "Diplomacy" racial trait. This reduces the number of repeats needed.
• The Cenarion Expedition Tabard (if available on your version) grants bonus reputation from dungeons.
• Don't forget the quests. Even if you prefer dungeon farming, the quests are a free 16,000+ reputation. Do them first.
• At level 80 everything is trivial. Outland mobs and bosses pose no threat — you'll clear any dungeon solo in a matter of minutes.
