Overview

Hand of Bahmethra

Chain of Bahmethra is an epic item that teaches the Hand of Bahmethra mount. It is a ground mount in the form of a giant pale hand that crawls along the ground. It was added in patch 9.1 "Chains of Domination" of the Shadowlands expansion.

According to the lore, Bahmethra was "the most vile and cruel among her kin, having endured the full measure of the Banished One's punishments before her fall." The mount has unique movement animations — the hand crawls on its fingers, and when it jumps it shows a random rock-paper-scissors gesture.

Why You Want This Mount

  • One of the most unusual mounts in the game — a giant crawling hand with an eye on its palm.
  • It belongs to the series of "hand" mounts alongside the Hand of Hrestimorak (blue), Hand of Nilganihmaht (gold), and Hand of Salaranga (black).
  • It counts toward mount-collecting achievements.
  • At level 80, Shadowlands content is cleared with ease — the perfect mount to farm between raids and keys.

Requirements

  • A character of any level (minimum 10)
  • Apprentice riding skill
  • Access to the Maw — unlocked through the Shadowlands story in Oribos
  • For maximum efficiency, level 80 is recommended, so you can kill mobs instantly.

How to Reach the Maw

The Maw is the Shadowlands endgame zone, accessible via a portal in Oribos.

  1. Travel to Oribos — the capital of the Shadowlands. The portal is located in the portal room in Stormwind or Orgrimmar.
  2. In Oribos, head to the upper ring.
  3. Use the transport point to the Maw — the guide NPC is located in the central part of Oribos.

At level 80 the zone poses no danger at all. Mount restrictions in the Maw were lifted in patch 9.1.5.

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1 — Arriving in the Maw

Head into the Maw via Oribos. At level 80 you completely outpace the content of this zone, so you can move around freely on a mount and ignore most enemies.

Step 2 — Find the Tormentors of Torghast Event

The "Tormentors of Torghast" event appears every hour at one of the points in the Maw. Three minutes before it begins, a crossed-swords icon with a countdown timer appears on the map.

The event consists of two stages:

  1. Clearing the area — kill regular mobs (1% progress) and elite lieutenants (33% progress), filling the bar to 100%.
  2. Boss tormentor — once the bar is filled, one of 15 bosses appears. Kill it.

At level 80, both stages are completed in a couple of minutes solo.

Step 3 — Get the Tormentor's Cache

After defeating the boss, you receive the Tormentor's Cache. The cache is granted once per week per character. Completing the event again in the same week will only give Soul Ash and reputation, but not the cache.

Open the cache — with a ~2–4% chance the Chain of Bahmethra will be inside.

Step 4 — Use the Item

If the mount drops, right-click the Chain of Bahmethra in your inventory. The Hand of Bahmethra mount will be added to your collection and become available on all characters on the account.

List of Tormentor Bosses

The event includes a rotation of 15 bosses. Each hour one of them appears:

# Boss # Boss
1 Versia the Damned 9 Gralleboich
2 Promathiz 10 Watchful Pyrophus
3 Elder Gruukuuek 11 Zul'get the Flayer
4 Murgem, Devourer of Souls 12 Soul Mash
5 Algel the Haunter 13 Watchful Shakorzeth
6 Kaz the Watcher 14 Mediator Razzram
7 Mallear Grakizz 15 Embodiment of Pain
8 Golmak the Monstrosity

All bosses are equally easy to kill at level 80. The specific boss does not affect the chance of getting the mount — the Chain of Bahmethra drops from the Tormentor's Cache, not from the boss itself.

Farming Optimization

Multiple Characters Are the Key to Success

The Tormentor's Cache is granted once per week per character, so the main way to speed up the farm is to use alts. Every alt with access to the Maw is an extra attempt per week.

  • With 1 character: ~2–4% chance per week, on average ~25–50 weeks
  • With 5 characters: ~10–18% chance per week, on average ~5–10 weeks
  • With 10 characters: ~18–33% chance per week, on average ~3–5 weeks

Schedule

The event appears every hour. Track the timer on the Maw map — a marker will appear 3 minutes before it begins. Arrive early so you don't miss the start.

Quick Access

For characters who have not completed the Shadowlands story, unlock access to the Maw through the Shadowlands introductory quest chain. At level 80 this takes minimal time.

Tips

1

Check that the event is working. In the past, the Tormentors of Torghast event would periodically break after the release of new expansions. If the event does not appear within 2 hours, check the current bug reports on the Blizzard forum.

2

Don't confuse it with the Links of the Chain of Bahmethra. In early versions of patch 9.1, the mount was assembled from 200 links that dropped from the event's mobs. Later, Blizzard added an alternative method — a drop from the Tormentor's Cache. The cache is now the main and fastest method.

3

Use the RareFinder or HandyNotes addon. They will help you track the appearance of events and rare mobs in the Maw.

4

Farm in parallel. While you wait for the event, you can kill rare mobs in the Maw for other mounts and collectible items.

5

The mount is account-wide. Once the Chain of Bahmethra drops on any character, the Hand of Bahmethra will become available on all your characters.

6

Mount speed. The Hand of Bahmethra is a ground mount. With Apprentice riding skill it gives +60% speed, with Journeyman — +100%. It cannot fly.
