Child of Torcali
Overview

Child of Torcali is an epic ground mount added in patch 8.2.0, "Rise of Azshara." It is a green direhorn, the daughter of the great dinosaur loa Torcali, whom your character raises from birth in the war beast pens of Zuldazar. The mount is the reward for completing the quest Wander Not Alone and earning the achievement How to Train Your Direhorn.
Child of Torcali is one of the most heartfelt mounts in the game. You don't simply loot it from a raid or buy it from a vendor — you personally raise a direhorn calf from a tiny hatchling into a mighty riding beast. The whole process takes about two to three weeks and is available only to Horde characters.
Why You Want This Mount
- Guaranteed acquisition — no RNG. Do the quests daily, and in two to three weeks the mount is yours.
- A unique story — you raise a direhorn from infancy, going through every stage of its growth. It's one of the few mounts with a full storyline.
- A beautiful model — a green direhorn with massive horns and a saddle. The model has a unique color not shared by any other direhorn.
- Available to all characters — once obtained, the mount becomes available on all characters on the account, including Alliance characters.
- Zandalar lore — the quest chain is deeply tied to the loa Torcali and the culture of the Zandalari trolls, which makes the mount especially valuable for fans of Azeroth's lore.
How to Obtain
To earn the mount, you need to complete a long quest chain in the war beast pens of Zuldazar. The chain consists of three phases: the starting quests, the continuation with daily quests, and the final chain.
Requirements
- A Horde character
- Apprentice Riding skill
- Access to Zuldazar
Phase 1: The Starting Chain
These quests are available in the war beast pens of Zuldazar (coordinates roughly 67, 41). You find an orphaned direhorn calf and begin caring for it.
- The Missing Handler
- The Orphaned Calf
- Direhorn Nursery + Voracious Landsharks — completed simultaneously
- Headbutting: A Beginner's Course
- Direhorn Growth Hormone
- WANTED: Jabra'kan + The Queen's Feather — completed simultaneously
- Wings for the Pen + DGH: Now with a Real Direhorn — completed simultaneously
- Growing Pains
- How to Train Your Direhorn
- A Good Thrashing
- Quiet Time
After the quest "Quiet Time" the calf falls asleep. Patch 8.2.0 is required to continue the chain.
Phase 2: Awakening and Daily Quests
Return to the war beast pens after updating to patch 8.2.0. The calf has woken up, but it needs help.
- Side Effects May Include...
- Alchemy Is an Inexact Science
- Under Observation
- The Endless Sleep
- A Loa Without a Temple
- A Sign of Faith
- Sleep, Eat, Repeat
After these quests, daily quests open up. Each day you have one random quest available from the list. The direhorn has an experience bar above its head, and each daily quest fills part of that bar. Full completion requires doing the quests for about 14–16 days.
Daily Quests
- Daughter of Torcali — find the Child of Torcali in the Mire and bring her home.
- A Growing Appetite — feed the Child of Torcali.
- Away from the Herd — find a runaway direhorn.
- Even Greener Pastures — take the direhorn to pasture.
- Greener Pastures — find food for the direhorn.
Phase 3: The Final Chain
When the direhorn's experience bar is completely full, the final series of quests opens up.
- The Call of the Great Wanderer
- The Shrines of Zuldazar
- The Direhorn and the Saurid
- The End of One Path
- Ru'li's Memories
- Torcali's Blessing
- Trust Well Earned
- The Mountain Has Moved
- Heresy at the Crossroads
- The Wrath of the Mother of Direhorns
- Wander Not Alone — talk to Torcali and receive the mount.
Where to Find the War Beast Pens
The war beast pens are located in the eastern part of Zuldazar, northeast of Dazar'alor. This is the area where the Zandalari trolls breed and train war dinosaurs.
How to Get There
- Use a hearthstone to Dazar'alor or a flight point to Zuldazar
- From Dazar'alor, head east toward the war beast pens
- The direhorn calf is in the pen at coordinates roughly 68, 42
Walkthrough Tips
- Don't skip days — every missed day of daily quests pushes back getting the mount.
- Check the pen — if the daily quest doesn't appear, try relogging or flying out of the zone and back.
- Start with the Zuldazar story — if you haven't yet done the Battle for Azeroth introductory campaign for the Horde, first finish the opening quests in Zuldazar to unlock access to the war beast pens.
- The experience bar — above the direhorn's head you'll see an experience bar divided into segments. Roughly every three daily quests fill two segments. When the bar is completely full, the final chain opens.
- Use the Chromie system — if your character is below level 50, enable the Battle for Azeroth timeline through Chromie in Stormwind or Orgrimmar to gain access to Zuldazar.
- The "Wrath of the Mother of Direhorns" quest — in this quest you control the direhorn directly with three abilities: Charge, Gore, and Torcali's Fury. Use all three abilities to win.
- The mount on all characters — once obtained on a Horde character, the mount becomes available even on Alliance characters. Level the chain on whichever character is most convenient for you.
