Overview

Cliffside Wylderdrake

Cliffside Wylderdrake is an epic dragonriding mount added in the Dragonflight expansion (patch 10.0.2). It is the fourth and final drake you obtain as you progress through the main Dragon Isles story campaign.

The Cliffside Wylderdrake makes its home on the sheer cliffs of Thaldraszus and is distinguished by its characteristic ram-like horns and the beard beneath its chin. It is the most compact of the dragonriding drakes, which gives you the best field of view while flying.

Why You Want This Mount

  • Story reward — obtaining it requires no grinding or luck, just completing the Thaldraszus campaign
  • The most compact drake — gives the best field of view in flight compared to the other dragonriding drakes
  • Extensive customization — over 80 appearance options through Drakewatcher Manuscripts
  • A quiet mount — it lacks the loud idle sounds that the other dragonriding drakes have
  • Supports the "Passenger" feature — an ally can ride along on your drake

Requirements

  • A character of level 10 or higher (since patch 10.2.7 the requirement was lowered from level 58)
  • Riding skill: Apprentice Riding
  • Completion of the Thaldraszus story campaign up to the quest "Back to the Future" (chapter 3 of the campaign, quest 47 of 54 in the "An Adventurer for All Times" chain)
  • Access to the Dragon Isles

How to Reach Thaldraszus

Thaldraszus is the fourth and final main zone of the Dragon Isles. To reach it you must complete the campaigns of the previous zones in order: The Waking Shores, Ohn'ahran Plains and The Azure Span.

The coordinates of the capital city Valdrakken, where the nearest Rostrum of Transformation for customizing the mount is located:

/way #2112 25.1 50.5 Rostrum of Transformation (Valdrakken)

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1 — Reach Thaldraszus

Complete the story campaigns of the three preceding Dragon Isles zones:

  1. The Waking Shores — here you obtain your first drake (Renewed Proto-Drake)
  2. Ohn'ahran Plains — here you obtain your second drake (Windborne Velocidrake)
  3. The Azure Span — here you obtain your third drake (Highland Drake)
  4. Thaldraszus — here you will obtain the Cliffside Wylderdrake

Step 2 — Complete the Thaldraszus Campaign Through Chapter 3

Follow the main Thaldraszus storyline. The quest "Back to the Future" is in the third chapter of the campaign and is tied to time travel with the help of Chromie.

The coordinates where the quest begins:

/way #2025 53.2 44.2 Chromie (start of the quest "Back to the Future")

Step 3 — Complete the Quest "Back to the Future"

In this quest you must protect your allies from the forces of the Black Empire while Chromie creates a portal through time. The quest is accompanied by a story cinematic.

After completing the quest you receive the Cliffside Wylderdrake in your inventory.

Step 4 — Activate the Mount

Important: the mount does not appear automatically in your Mount Journal. Find the item in your bags (type "wylderdrake" into the bag search) and use it. After that you will earn the achievement "Cliffside Companion" and the mount will become available to all characters on your account.

Customizing the Cliffside Wylderdrake

The Cliffside Wylderdrake has the most extensive customization system among the dragonriding drakes. You can change its appearance at a Rostrum of Transformation, the nearest of which is located in Valdrakken.

/way #2112 25.1 50.5 Rostrum of Transformation (Valdrakken)

To unlock additional appearance options you use Drakewatcher Manuscripts. The available customization categories are:

  • Skin (color, scale type, pattern)
  • Horns (shape, color)
  • Crest, brow, chin, jaw, nose, ears
  • Throat, mane (hair color)
  • Eyes (color, style, eyesight)
  • Back, tail, legs
  • Armor (style, color), helmet

Tips and Optimization

  • Don't discard the item from your bags. After the quest, the Cliffside Wylderdrake lands in your inventory. Use it manually to add it to your Mount Journal.
  • Speed up the campaign. If you already have a level 90 character, create an alt and use Threads of Fate for faster access to Thaldraszus content.
  • Collect manuscripts in parallel. As you progress through the story zones you will find manuscripts for all four dragonriding drakes — pick them up right away.
  • Check racing purses. World quests with drake races award purses that randomly drop customization manuscripts.
  • Valdrakken Accord Renown is the easiest path to most of the basic customizations. Raise it through weekly and daily tasks.
  • Inscription unlocks unique armor and crest manuscripts. If you don't have the profession, order the craft through the crafting orders system.
  • Rostrums of Transformation are found in every Dragon Isles zone, not just in Valdrakken. Use the one nearest to you.
