Overview

Colossal Plaguespew Mawrat

Iska's Mawrat Leash is an epic item that teaches the Colossal Plaguespew Mawrat mount. This is a ground mount added in patch 9.2.0 "Eternity's End" of the Shadowlands expansion. The item drops from Rhuv, Gorger of Ruin — the beast ridden by Iska, Outrider of Ruin in the Endless Sands of Zereth Mortis.

The Colossal Plaguespew Mawrat is a massive green mawrat covered in plague growths. These rodents served Iska as scouts, spreading her plague throughout the Maw. The mount uses a distinctive model shared with four other mawrat variants, but stands out with its unique green plague coloration.

Why You Want This Mount

  • Rarity — the mount has roughly a 3–5% drop chance from a rare mob that itself spawns infrequently. It's one of the hardest mounts to obtain from patch 9.2.0.
  • Unique coloration — the plague-green tint sets this mount apart from the other mawrats.
  • Shadowlands content — the mount is a legacy of the Shadowlands era and will become increasingly rare in players' collections over time.
  • Available to all characters — once learned, the mount is unlocked on every character on the account.
  • Ground mount — works only on the ground, increasing movement speed by 60% or 100% depending on your riding skill.

How to Obtain

The mount drops from Rhuv, Gorger of Ruin — the beast ridden by Iska, Outrider of Ruin, in the Endless Sands of Zereth Mortis. To obtain the mount you need to:

  1. Unlock Zereth Mortis by completing the opening quest chain of the patch 9.2.0 campaign.
  2. Travel to the Endless Sands — the northeastern part of the Zereth Mortis map.
  3. Wait for Iska, Outrider of Ruin to appear. A message will appear in zone chat: "A loud rumble rises from deep within the northern sands."
  4. Deal damage specifically to Rhuv, Gorger of Ruin (the beast beneath Iska) — the item drops only from him.
  5. After Rhuv dies, loot his corpse immediately — it despawns very quickly.
  6. If the Iska's Mawrat Leash drops, use it to learn the mount.

Spawn Mechanics

Iska, Outrider of Ruin is one of three rare mobs that spawn in the center of the Endless Sands of Zereth Mortis. These mobs are tied to the Dune Dominance achievement.

The Three Rare Mobs of the Endless Sands

Rider Mount Mount Drop
Iska, Outrider of Ruin Rhuv, Gorger of Ruin Iska's Mawrat Leash
High Reaver Damaris Edra the Willbreaker
Reanimatrox Marzan Phalangax, the Last Grip

Only one of the three mobs spawns at a time. This means that even with an active spawn, the chance of it being Iska specifically is about 33%.

How to Speed Up the Spawn

  • Kill other rare mobs in Zereth Mortis — zone activity influences how often the Endless Sands rares appear.
  • Watch for the zone chat message: "A loud rumble rises from deep within the northern sands" — this signals the appearance of one of the three rare mobs.
  • A star marker will appear on the map indicating the mob's exact location.
  • The spawn usually occurs every 1–2 hours on active realms, but can drag out to 12+ hours on low-population ones.

Combat Strategy

The fight against Iska happens in two phases:

Phase 1: Rhuv, Gorger of Ruin

First you fight Rhuv — the beast Iska rides. Rhuv has 597,740 health (at level 63). At the current level cap, he dies within a few seconds.

Critically important: land at least one hit on Rhuv before he dies. The mount drops from Rhuv, not from Iska. If you fail to tag Rhuv, you won't be able to loot him.

Phase 2: Iska, Outrider of Ruin

After Rhuv dies, Iska dismounts and continues the fight. Her abilities:

  • Bolt of Ruin — deals Shadow damage
  • Field of Withering — creates a zone that heals allies. Move Iska out of this zone
  • Infestation — Shadow damage and a debuff
  • Malaria — increases damage taken by 20%
  • Stygian Protection — immunity to damage. Wait for the effect to end

Iska periodically tosses players into the air. At the current level cap, the fight poses no challenge.

Important Loot Notes

  • Loot Rhuv, not Iska — the mount is in Rhuv's loot table specifically. Iska drops weapons (polearms, staves, shields).
  • Rhuv's corpse despawns quickly — loot it right after death. If you delay, the corpse may disappear.
  • Rhuv and Iska have separate daily lockouts — you can kill Rhuv and loot him once per day on each character.
  • Rhuv isn't always lootable — sometimes Rhuv's corpse doesn't highlight for looting. This may be because you've already collected your loot for the day.

Farming Optimization

Multi-Character Approach

The most efficient way to farm is using multiple characters:

  1. Park several characters near coordinates 63, 26 in Zereth Mortis.
  2. When the rumble-in-the-sands message appears, switch to a character in the zone.
  3. Kill Rhuv, loot the corpse.
  4. Repeat on the next character at the next spawn.

Daily Plan

  1. Log in on each character in Zereth Mortis.
  2. Kill other rare mobs to stimulate the spawn of the Endless Sands mobs.
  3. Watch zone chat and the map markers.
  4. When Iska appears — prioritize tagging Rhuv.
  5. Loot Rhuv's corpse immediately.

Using Addons

  • RareScanner or SilverDragon — will alert you on screen or in the zone when a rare mob appears.
  • TomTom — set a waypoint /way Zereth Mortis 63.2 26.0 for quick navigation.
  • HandyNotes: Zereth Mortis — displays all rare mob spawn points on the map.

How to Reach Zereth Mortis

Zereth Mortis is a zone added in patch 9.2 of Shadowlands. Access is unlocked through the campaign.

First Visit

  1. Reach level 60 (or level 10+ with scaling via Chromie).
  2. Complete the patch 9.2 campaign intro quests in Oribos.
  3. Follow the "Call of the Primus" quest chain until you are teleported to Zereth Mortis.
  4. Complete the zone's opening quest chain to unlock world quests and the flight point.

Quick Access

Once the zone is unlocked, use the portal in Oribos for instant travel to Zereth Mortis. The portal is located in the Enclave (for the Alliance) or the Hold (for the Horde).

How Long It Will Take

Obtaining this mount depends entirely on luck. Estimated timeframes:

  • Chance of one of the three mobs spawning — every 1–2 hours on an active realm
  • Chance that it's Iska — ~33%
  • Mount drop chance — ~3–5%
  • Overall chance per attempt — roughly 1–1.7%
  • Statistically — at one attempt per day, it takes about 60–100 days. Using multiple characters shortens this proportionally

This mount is considered one of the hardest to farm in patch 9.2 due to the triple layer of RNG: mob spawn, picking the specific mob out of three, and the drop chance.

Tips

1

Tag Rhuv first — when Iska appears, many players attack Iska directly. But the mount drops only from Rhuv. Make sure you've dealt damage to the beast beneath her before he dies.

2

Rhuv dies instantly — at the current level cap, Rhuv can die within a single global cooldown.

3

Loot immediately — Rhuv's corpse despawns very quickly. Don't get distracted by Iska; loot Rhuv first.

4

Farm on multiple characters — each character has a separate daily lockout for looting Rhuv.

5

Use alert addons — RareScanner or SilverDragon will warn you with an audio cue when a rare mob appears, so you don't miss the spawn.

6

Kill other rare mobs — zone activity stimulates the spawn of the Endless Sands mobs.

7

Check different shards — if the spawn is slow on your realm, try joining a group from another realm via the group finder.

8

Outdated content — Zereth Mortis is Shadowlands content, so at the current level cap all mobs are killed within seconds.
