Compass Rose

Compass Rose is a legendary flying disc-style mount added in patch 10.2.5 Seeds of Renewal. The mount is themed around the Hearthstone card game and takes the form of a hovering compass rose, "pulled from a giant Hearthstone box." The Compass Rose dropped from Dr. Boom — a special event boss that appeared during the celebration of Hearthstone's 10th Anniversary.

This is one of the few disc mounts in the game. Your character stands atop a hovering compass rose that glides smoothly through the air. The design is based on the look of the classic Hearthstone box and is instantly recognizable to collectors.

• Unique model — one of the very few disc mounts in World of Warcraft. The hovering compass rose instantly draws attention and sets its owner apart from other players.
• Collector's value — the mount was only available during a limited-time event. The more time passes since the event, the rarer the mount becomes among players.
• Hearthstone crossover — a nod to Blizzard's iconic card game. If you're a fan of both universes, the Compass Rose makes a centerpiece of your collection.
• Ground and flying — the mount works both on the ground and in the air. Flight speed reaches up to +310% with the appropriate riding skill.
• Available to all characters — once learned, the mount is bound to your account and becomes available on all of your characters.

The Compass Rose dropped from Dr. Boom during the "Hearthstone 10th Anniversary" event, which ran from March 11 to March 22, 2024. The event was limited-time and, as of this writing, has concluded.

1. During the event, an Ominous Portal appeared every hour in one of three locations, starting a 5-minute countdown
2. When the timer ended, waves of enemies from the Hearthstone universe emerged from the portal — including iconic creatures such as the Chillwind Yeti
3. The final boss was Dr. Boom, and upon his defeat each participant received individual loot
4. The Compass Rose dropped from Dr. Boom at a low chance — roughly 3.02%
5. There was no loot lockout — you could kill Dr. Boom every hour with no restriction
6. After obtaining the item, you had to use it to learn the mount

During the event, portals spawned at three fixed points. Only one portal could be active at a time, and they rotated every hour.

Valdrakken

The portal appeared beneath the Seat of the Aspects, near the Emerald Enclave.

Stormwind

The portal appeared in the northeastern part of the city, near the harbor district.

Durotar (near Orgrimmar)

The portal appeared outside the gates of Orgrimmar, between the Dragon Isles coastline and the city entrance.

How the Portal Worked

The Ominous Portal appeared every hour in one of three locations. When you approached the portal, a 5-minute countdown began, after which a fight against several waves of enemies started.

The enemies were tough enough for a solo player, but with a group of several people the waves were wiped out almost instantly. It was recommended to join already-formed groups through the group finder tool.

Dr. Boom

The final boss of the event was Dr. Boom, an iconic card from Hearthstone. He appeared after all the minion waves were cleared. The fight required no complex tactics — what mattered more was staying near the boss and landing at least one hit to earn loot eligibility.

Loot

In addition to the Compass Rose, Dr. Boom could drop:

• Belt and hat — cosmetic items in the Hearthstone style
• Hearthstone cards — collectible items

• Use the group finder — search for groups by keywords "Dr. Boom", "Hearthstone" or "Compass Rose" in the "Premade Groups" section. A large group kills the boss far faster, and the drop chance is the same regardless of group size
• Farm on multiple characters — there was no loot lockout, and each character got its own roll on the mount. Switch between alts during the hourly respawns to increase your number of attempts
• Track the respawn time — portals appeared exactly every hour. Note the time after the previous portal and arrive early so you don't miss the start of the event
• Check all three locations — if you didn't find a portal in one place, check the other two. Only one portal could be active at a time
• No high level required — any character from level 10 could take part in the event. Even a low-level alt had a chance to get the mount
• Be patient — with a chance of ~3–10%, it could take you anywhere from 10 to 50+ kills. Some players reported 93 or more kills before getting the mount

As of this writing, the "Hearthstone 10th Anniversary" event has concluded and there is no official announcement of a rerun. However, there are several likely scenarios for the mount's return:

• Event rerun — Blizzard may bring the event back for the next Hearthstone anniversary or as part of another crossover
• Trading Post — the mount could appear in the Trading Post lineup for Traveler's Tender
• Amazon Prime Gaming/Twitch Drops — Blizzard periodically offers previously unavailable mounts through partner promotions
