Crashing Thunderhammer — Transmog Set Guide
Overview

Crashing Thunderhammer is a two-handed bludgeoning hammer added to World of Warcraft with the The War Within expansion. The model is built on the "delver" silhouette of the expansion's dungeons: a massive, faceted head of dark stone and metal across which flashes of storm energy race. The cold blue-grey tones of the body are offset by a shimmering turquoise glow — a nod to the storm that saturates the Rookery dungeon itself.
The weapon belongs to the two-handed mace category and suits warriors, paladins, and death knights. The item quality is epic, the item level is 74, and it requires character level 80. This is not a unique legendary model but a solid "dungeon" appearance that fits well into sets with a stormy or stone theme.
Source
The hammer drops from the second boss of the Rookery dungeon — Stormguard Gorren. This is a Heroic The War Within dungeon, available at max level.
- Source — a drop from the boss Stormguard Gorren in the Rookery dungeon.
- Difficulties — any will do: Normal, Heroic, or Mythic, including a Mythic+ key.
- Drop chance — around 3% per run, according to the in-game source.
- It can be completed in a group or solo at max level thanks to old-content scaling.
- There is no attempt limit: the dungeon can be reset as many times as you like, so farming the appearance is limited only by your patience.
The Rookery is a compact three-boss dungeon: Kyrioss comes first, Stormguard Gorren second, and the Voidstone Monstrosity is the finale. The hammer drops only from the second boss, so clearing the dungeon to the end for this appearance is not required, though finishing it is quick and easy.
Who it suits visually
- It harmonizes with sets in blue-grey and turquoise tones — for example, plate sets with a storm and tempest theme.
- It looks great in "stone" and "delver" looks thanks to its faceted mineral head.
- It suits a death knight in cold tones: the storm glow echoes frost effects.
- It contrasts with warm gold-and-red armor — a debatable but striking combination for a statement weapon.
- It fits "storm warden" or "Rookery defender" concepts thanks to its direct lore tie to the dungeon.
Tips
For farming, choose the dungeon's Normal difficulty: at max level the Rookery can be cleared solo in a few minutes.
The hammer drops only from Stormguard Gorren, so once he dies you can leave the dungeon immediately and reset it.
Resetting the dungeon lets you farm the boss again within the daily reset limit.
The most convenient classes to farm on are ones with high mobility and steady self-healing — a paladin or death knight clears the route especially fast.
The appearance unlocks account-wide: once you get it on one character, you can apply the transmog on all eligible classes.
If you only want the appearance and not the stats, any version of the hammer with this look will do, regardless of the difficulty it dropped from.

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
