Get Crimson Tidestallion mount
Overview

The
Crimson Tidestallion is an aquatic mount shaped like a crimson seahorse, introduced in Battle for Azeroth with the Nazjatar zone update. You don't earn it from a boss or through reputation, but through the trading minigame of the murloc vendor Mrrl: you run a chain of exchanges across several murlocs and gather three rare items.
Buying the mount grants the achievement From Mrrl's Coffers, which counts toward the zone's meta-achievement Undersea Usurper.
Why You Want This Mount
- A unique model. The crimson seahorse is one of the few purely aquatic mounts with an exclusive look.
- Progress toward a meta-achievement. From Mrrl's Coffers counts toward Undersea Usurper.
- One of the most original ways to obtain a mount in the entire game — a multi-step murloc trading game.
- Collector's value. The mount takes patience and knowledge of the mechanics, so it's rarely seen.
Requirements and Prerequisites
- Access to Nazjatar — you must have completed the zone's introductory campaign from Battle for Azeroth, otherwise the location is locked.
Azsh'ari Storm-Caller's Cloak — a benthic cloak that unlocks a secret inventory at the murlocs. Without it, the key trade items don't appear.- A stock of the Prismatic Manapearl currency to buy benthic cloaks.
- Around 666 gold for the
Hungry Herald's Tentacle Taco and extra gold for the murlocs' basic goods — in total the chain costs several thousand gold.
How to Reach Nazjatar
Nazjatar is an underwater zone from Battle for Azeroth. To get there for the first time:
- Arrive at your faction hub — Boralus for the Alliance or Dazar'alor for the Horde.
- Pick up the zone's starting quest; it appears automatically after the expansion's opening story quests.
- Complete the introductory chain, which takes you to Nazjatar.
- Finish the quests up to the opening of your faction camp: Mezzamere for the Alliance or Newhome for the Horde.
- After the intro campaign, a portal to Nazjatar for fast travel appears in your hub's portal room.
Unlocking Mrrl and the Vendors
Mrrl is a wounded murloc in northern Nazjatar. Take the quest tied to him and escort him to your faction's camp. After that, murloc vendors appear near Mrrl, and the entire trading chain runs among them.
The key step is to get the
Azsh'ari Storm-Caller's Cloak. Benthic cloaks are bought from the gear vendor in your camp for Prismatic Manapearls, and each cloak you buy has a random chance to be the one you need. Keep buying until the Storm-Caller's Cloak drops; it usually takes anywhere from a few to a dozen or so attempts.
You have to wear the cloak — only with the cloak equipped does the secret inventory open up at the murlocs.
What You Need to Buy the Mount
Trading with Mrrl requires three items:
Item | Qty | How to Obtain |
|---|---|---|
| 4 | Chain of exchanges among the murlocs. | |
| 2 | Chain of exchanges among the murlocs. | |
| 1 | Bought from Murloco for 666 gold. |
Important: cultist's pinkies and pulsing bloodstones vanish from your bags after 24 hours. Only start the chain of exchanges on a day when the mount is available from Mrrl.
The Chain of Exchanges
Mrrl's inventory changes daily, and the
Crimson Tidestallion itself goes on sale only a few times a month. Visit Mrrl every day with the Storm-Caller's Cloak equipped and check whether the mount is in stock.
The exchanges work like a "shuffle" among the murlocs: one vendor's basic goods turn into intermediate items at another, and those in turn become
Cultist's Pinky and
Pulsing Bloodstone. The order and quantity of goods at each step change, so it's easiest to check against a helper addon (see "Tips"), which tells you what and how much to buy for the current inventory.
The third item — the
Hungry Herald's Tentacle Taco — is sold by a separate murloc, Murloco. He spawns randomly in a Nazjatar cave, locked in a cage and guarded by naga: kill the guards, free him, and buy the taco for 666 gold. Trading is available for only a few minutes, after which Murloco disappears. Unlike the chain components, the taco has no time limit — you can buy it in advance and keep it until the day you need it.
Buying the Mount
Once all three items are gathered:
- Make sure the
Azsh'ari Storm-Caller's Cloak is equipped. - Approach Mrrl in your camp and open his inventory.
- Trade 4
Cultist's Pinkies, 2
Pulsing Bloodstones, and 1
Hungry Herald's Tentacle Taco for the mount. - The
Crimson Tidestallion lands in your collection, and you earn the achievement From Mrrl's Coffers.
Tips and Tricks
- Check Mrrl daily. The mount is on sale only a few times a month, so drop by the vendor for at least a minute every day.
- Don't gather the components ahead of time. Cultist's pinkies and pulsing bloodstones disappear after a day — only start the chain on a day when the mount is available. The taco, however, doesn't expire, so grab it the first time you meet Murloco.
- Install a helper addon. There are ready-made addons for Mrrl's trading game that track the inventory and tell you the exact purchases at each step — it noticeably simplifies the process.
- Stockpile manapearls in advance. Benthic cloaks will eat up plenty of Prismatic Manapearls before the Storm-Caller's Cloak drops.
- Find Murloco through the group finder. If you need the taco urgently, join groups flagged as having found Murloco — players often gather them up when he appears.
- Everything can be done solo. Nazjatar is open world; you don't need a group for the mount at any stage.
- The mount only works in water. On land you'll switch to a regular means of transport, and the seahorse activates when you submerge.
