Crux of the Apocalypse — Transmog Set Guide
Overview

Crux of the Apocalypse is an epic one-handed dagger added to World of Warcraft in The Burning Crusade expansion with patch 2.4.2, alongside the opening of the Sunwell Plateau raid. It is a short blade with a dark, almost black edge and distinctive greenish highlights that echo the Fel color theme of the Burning Legion. A silvery spiked crossguard and a cross-shaped hilt give the weapon an aggressive silhouette — hence the name.
The dagger belongs to the melee weapon category: its base stats are oriented toward agility and speed, so historically it was a coveted drop for rogues and hunters. Today the item's combat stats are long outdated, and all interest in it rests on its appearance. The dagger's appearance itself is what counts toward your appearance collection, so for transmogrification it is enough to obtain the item once with any character of a suitable class.
The item's flavor text plays on a grim theme: the "crux" here is both the shape of the hilt and a turning point, a pivotal moment. The dark palette makes the dagger a fine choice for looks built around a demonic or necromantic aesthetic.
Source
Crux of the Apocalypse drops from the raid's final boss — Kil'jaeden. He is the last opponent in Sunwell Plateau, a raid from The Burning Crusade expansion.
- The raid is located on the Isle of Quel'Danas — north of Silvermoon. The fastest way there is the portal from Shattrath that leads directly to the isle; the island itself has a flight point shared by both factions.
- The raid entrance is in the southern part of the island, with approximate coordinates around 44, 45. Sunwell Plateau has only one difficulty — there are no separate modes such as Mythic here.
- The drop chance for the dagger from Kil'jaeden is roughly 16-17%. The boss is guaranteed to drop several pieces of loot, and Crux of the Apocalypse shares its loot table with another raid weapon.
- Kil'jaeden is the raid's furthest boss, so every run for the dagger requires clearing all of the previous bosses. After killing the final boss, the character receives a raid lock until the weekly reset, so a single character gets one attempt per week.
- The raid's content is long outdated: at max level Sunwell Plateau can be cleared solo with no trouble. The raid's bosses have no remaining mechanics capable of hindering solo transmog farming.
Since the attempt is limited to once per week per character, for faster farming it makes sense to bring several characters of a suitable class into the raid — the appearance counts toward the account-wide collection.
Who It Suits Visually
- The dark blade with green highlights harmonizes with T6 armor sets from late Burning Crusade raids — for example, with plate and leather sets in a black-and-green palette.
- The greenish accents echo the aesthetic of the Fel and the Burning Legion — the dagger looks great in demonic looks for demon hunters and warlocks.
- The silvery spiked crossguard adds aggression and pairs with plate sets in steel and dark tones.
- The compact silhouette makes the dagger a fine choice for stealthy rogue looks that call for a short, understated blade with a grim palette.
- It contrasts with the light elven armor of Quel'Thalas — a debatable but expressive combination of a dark weapon and golden-white armor.
Tips
At max level the Sunwell Plateau raid can be cleared solo with no preparation — a dedicated group for transmog farming is not needed.
The attempt to obtain the dagger is limited to one Kil'jaeden kill per week per character due to the raid lock, so it is best to spread the farm across several characters.
Kil'jaeden is the final boss, and you will have to clear the entire raid to reach him; budget around 10-15 minutes for a full run.
Classes with their own ways to teleport to the last dungeon are handy for quickly returning to the raid — this noticeably speeds up repeat entries.
During the same run, other raid daggers drop along the way — the Bloodletting Knife and the Fang of Kalecgos from earlier bosses, so a single clear can add several appearances to your collection at once.
The appearance counts toward the account-wide collection, so obtaining the dagger once with any character of a suitable weapon class is enough.
If the item does not drop, that is normal: the chance is around 16-17%, and sometimes several weeks of runs are needed.
