Overview

Crystalfire Staff

Game iconCrystalfire Staff is a two-handed staff of rare quality, added to World of Warcraft with the The Burning Crusade expansion. It is an intellect weapon that occupies both hand slots, intended for spell-power classes: mages, warlocks, priests, druids, shamans and evokers.

Visually the staff stands out thanks to its head shaped like a crystal wreathed in cold blue flame, and a slender shaft carved along its full length. The color scheme is blue and azure with frosty highlights, so in transmog it reads as an "icy" or "arcane" staff rather than a fiery one, despite its name. The model is tidy and not overloaded with detail, which makes it a convenient base for looks built around a single palette.

Source

The staff drops from the boss Omor the Unscarred — an elite demon and one of the bosses of the Hellfire Ramparts dungeon in Outland. This is the first and most accessible dungeon of the The Burning Crusade expansion.

  • The difficulty is normal; a separate heroic mode is not required for transmog.
  • The drop chance from Omor the Unscarred is around 10 percent, meaning on average the item drops within a few runs.
  • There is no limit on the number of attempts: you can re-enter the dungeon, wait for the timer to reset, and farm the drop you need.
  • The item can be obtained in a group or solo — at current level the dungeon clears alone without trouble.

The dungeon entrance is in Hellfire Citadel at the center of Hellfire Peninsula, with the portal located roughly at coordinates 47, 53.

Who it suits visually

  • It suits frost and arcane mages: the blue glow of the head echoes the effects of frost and arcane spells.
  • It harmonizes with cloth sets in a blue-white and silvery palette, where a cold accent in the hands is wanted.
  • It looks great with crystal-, ice- and winter-themed looks thanks to the frosty highlights on the head.
  • It contrasts with the dark and crimson sets of warlocks — a debatable but expressive choice if you want a bright blue spot.
  • The restrained model without excess detail is handy when the main accent of the look is on the armor and the weapon should merely support the palette.

Tips

1

Hellfire Ramparts is the shortest dungeon of The Burning Crusade; a full run to Omor the Unscarred takes a few minutes.

2

Omor the Unscarred is the third boss in order, so clearing the whole dungeon for his sake is not mandatory, but the small packs along the way die in a couple of hits.

3

At current level any class clears the dungeon solo, so there is no need to pick a "convenient" class for the farm.

4

If the staff does not drop the first time, leave the dungeon, reset it and enter again — there is no cap on attempts.

5

The dungeon is in Hellfire Citadel, and it is convenient to get there via the hearthstone to Honor Hold or Thrallmar on Hellfire Peninsula.

6

The obtained staff binds to the character, so it should be farmed by those who want it in their appearance, or its appearance should be unlocked through the appearances collection in advance.

7

When assembling a look, keep in mind that the name "fire" is deceptive: in the wardrobe the item reads as icy or arcane, and a cold palette is what you should match to it.
