Overview

Crystalheart Pulse-Staff

Game iconCrystalheart Pulse-Staff is an epic two-handed staff from The Burning Crusade era. It is a caster weapon: the staff can be wielded by mages, priests, warlocks, druids, shamans, monks and evokers. The model is crowned with a large blue crystal set in a metal frame, and a cold blue glow runs along the shaft — hence the "pulsing" crystal heart in its name.

Its stats have long been irrelevant, but as a transmog it is prized for its clean blue-and-silver silhouette without any unnecessary clutter. This look fits well with frost and arcane outfits and is not tied to any specific caster class.

Source

The staff drops from Magtheridon — the only boss of the Magtheridon's Lair raid. The raid sits in the dungeons of Hellfire Citadel on the Hellfire Peninsula, in Outland.

  • Magtheridon's Lair is a 25-player raid from The Burning Crusade era with a single boss.
  • No attunement is required to enter — you can step in as soon as you reach Outland.
  • There is no loot from trash mobs in the raid: Magtheridon is the only source of drops, so farming comes down to a single kill per run.
  • The chance to get the staff from one kill is fairly high, but the loot is tied to the weekly raid reset, so you only get one attempt per character each week.
  • At max-level Midnight (90), Magtheridon goes down solo with ease. The original mechanic with the Manticron Cubes used in a group is not needed — solo you simply deal damage to the boss.

Visual Fit

  • Suits frost and arcane mage outfits thanks to the blue crystal and the blue glow along the shaft.
  • Harmonizes with silver-and-white cloth armor that needs a cold accent down the center of the silhouette.
  • Complements priest and warlock looks built around a blue-and-purple palette.
  • Stands out against dark or red armor — the cold crystal becomes a bright focal point.

Tips

1

The optimal farm is once a week on a single character because the loot is tied to the raid reset.

2

If you want more attempts, run it on several characters: each one has its own weekly reset.

3

For solo runs, classes with high mobile damage and self-healing are convenient — for example a demon hunter or paladin, to reach and kill the boss faster.

4

The raid entrance is inside the dungeons of Hellfire Citadel — don't confuse it with the same-named five-player dungeons nearby.

5

The staff is the only caster weapon dropped by this boss; the rest of Magtheridon's loot is armor tokens and rings.

6

Before you go in, make sure the raid reset hasn't been used: killing him again in the same week yields no loot.
