Overview

Darkened Slicer

Game iconDarkened Slicer is a one-handed dagger of uncommon quality that arrived in World of Warcraft alongside the Battle for Azeroth expansion, in patch 8.2.0 "Rise of Azshara." The blade is built on the naga model: the curved edge resembles a fin or the chitinous claw of a sea predator, while the hilt is wrapped in dark, bony growths. The palette stays in cold blue-green tones with deep shadows toward the tip — hence the name.

This weapon is interesting first and foremost as a transmogrification piece. By stats the dagger is long outdated: item level 19, requiring character level 50. It carries no combat value at the level cap. Its model, however, is part of the naga set from Nazjatar, and seeing it on other characters is fairly rare, because the zone has been irrelevant for several expansions now.

The dagger binds on equip, meaning it can be bought from the auction house or handed to another character. That is an important detail: a collector does not have to farm the loot personally — it is enough to catch the item for sale.

Source

The Darkened Slicer is a world drop from the Nazjatar zone. It is not tied to a specific dungeon or raid boss and drops from ordinary creatures throughout the location.

The main confirmed source is the Shirakess Overseer, an elite naga patrolling the terraces of Nazjatar. Besides her, the dagger can also drop from other nagas in the zone, since it is a typical zone-wide world drop not bound to a single enemy.

Key facts about the loot:

  • There is no exact boss — the blade drops from rank-and-file and elite nagas all across Nazjatar.
  • The drop chance is low, like that of any green world drop, so farming requires patience.
  • There is no attempt limit: you can farm nagas as much as you want, since world drops have no weekly or personal restrictions.
  • Nazjatar's green gear has unique models, so such items sell steadily through the auction house — even several expansions later there is still demand for them.

How to reach Nazjatar: the zone opens after completing the introductory "Rise of Azshara" quest chain. For that, the character must reach level 50 and finish the Battle for Azeroth campaign up to the landing in Nazjatar — for the Alliance that is the "Uniting Kul Tiras" achievement, for the Horde "Uniting Zandalar." Once unlocked, a portal in the faction capital leads to the zone — Boralus for the Alliance and Dazar'alor for the Horde.

Who It Suits Visually

  • Naga- and Nazjatar-themed looks: the blade complements outfits with chitinous plates, fins, and a blue-green palette.
  • Cold-toned builds — blue, turquoise, and dark-green armor, where the darkened blade plays off the contrast with the armor's highlights.
  • Underwater and "deep-sea" themes: the bony hilt and fin shape support the concept of a sea predator or a priest of the Azshara cult.
  • Stealthy rogue and demon hunter looks: the compact curved dagger looks great in a pair of identical blades.
  • Contrasting combinations with warm golden armor — a debatable but expressive choice if you want a bright accent.

Tips

1

Farm nagas in large packs: Nazjatar has many spots with dense enemy spawns, and at a high character level they are cleared in mere seconds.

2

Before the hunt, check the auction house — it is often cheaper and faster to buy the dagger than to grind it yourself, since the item only binds on equip.

3

Take a character with fast movement and steady area damage: the more nagas killed per unit of time, the higher the chance of a drop.

4

Nazjatar's green gear is unique in its models, so spare copies can be put up for sale — the farm partly pays for itself in gold.

5

Unlock Nazjatar in advance on the needed character: without the completed introductory "Rise of Azshara" chain you cannot enter the zone.

6

The dagger is not tied to a specific boss, so choose any convenient route across the zone's terraces and simply clear nagas in a loop.

7

If you also need other naga models, keep the whole set of Battle for Azeroth daggers in mind — a single farming session can net several appearances at once.
