Get Darkwater Skate mount

Darkwater Skate is an uncommon underwater mount added to World of Warcraft in the Legion expansion (patch 7.2.0). It is a rare type of skate that dwells only in the dark waters off the shores of Darkmoon Island. The mount can be summoned exclusively underwater and vanishes the moment you step onto dry land, but that is exactly what makes it one of the most stylish underwater means of transport in the game — a large skate-like model with smooth animations that is perfect for exploring the ocean depths of Azeroth.

The mount can only be obtained from the vendor Galissa Sundew on Darkmoon Island in exchange for 500 Darkmoon Daggermaws — a special fish caught in the waters around the island during the Darkmoon Faire. The Faire opens once a month and lasts one week, so gathering the currency stretches across one or several events.

• Rare underwater model — one of the few mounts that can be summoned underwater. It is used for underwater achievements, fishing, and exploring the waters of Kul Tiras, Nazjatar, and Vashj'ir
• Unique swimming animation — smooth fin movements and a stylish dark color scheme set it apart from the standard seahorses and turtles
• Account-bound — once purchased, the mount unlocks for all characters on the account, regardless of faction and class
• Tied to fishing — obtaining the mount automatically leads to leveling up your fishing skill and incidentally filling out your collection of pets, toys, and rare finds from the Faire
• Achievements — buying the skate counts toward the Legion fishing achievement series and brings you closer to mount collector titles (150, 200, 300+ mounts)

• Minimum level — 17. A formality at level 80, the content presents no real difficulty
• Fishing skill — technically you can catch Darkmoon Daggermaws with minimal skill, but a high skill rules out missed bites.
• Active Darkmoon Faire — without the event open you cannot reach the island, and Daggermaws cannot be caught. The Faire schedule is tied to the first Sunday of each month
• No separate access to the location is required — any character of any level can get there

The Darkmoon Faire opens on the first Sunday of each month and runs for exactly one week, through the following Sunday inclusive. You can get there in two ways:

1. Through the Faire heralds — Darkmoon Faire Heralds appear in major capitals (Stormwind, Orgrimmar, and others) and open a portal passage
2. Through the permanent portals:
   • Alliance — Elwynn Forest, near Goldshire, by the permanent portal arch
   • Horde — Mulgore, between Thunder Bluff and Bloodhoof Village, the same arch

After teleporting you will end up near the island's pier. Galissa Sundew stands on a wooden platform in the northeastern part of the waterfront, by the water and the fishing pier:

The Darkmoon Daggermaw is caught only in the waters around Darkmoon Island and nowhere else. There are three ways to catch it, and your choice determines the farming speed.

Open water

Cast your line from any stretch of the shore or from the pier. Each bite yields 0–1 Daggermaw plus regular fish and rare finds. This is the slowest but steadiest method — suitable for leveling fishing or if you want to relax by the water.

Shipwreck Debris

Shipwreck Debris — floating wooden crates — appears periodically around the island. From them you fish out a Sealed Darkmoon Crate, and inside the crate lies 2–5 Daggermaws plus gold and extra fish. The debris spawn zones are visible on the minimap, and they are worth visiting first.

Bloated Thresher

The rarest and most generous option is to catch a Bloated Thresher. This is a large fish that is occasionally pulled up from a regular bite. When opened, it yields 5–10 Daggermaws, 10–30 gold, and a chance at a Golden Hook. It is precisely for the threshers that it makes sense to fish in open water: each such trophy saves dozens of casts.

1. Wait for the start of the Darkmoon Faire — the first Sunday of the month
2. Take the portal in Elwynn Forest or Mulgore (or from a herald in a capital) and arrive on Darkmoon Island
3. Buy a fishing pole from the Faire vendor if you don't have one
4. Walk around the shore clockwise, collecting visible Shipwreck Debris and fishing along the way from the pier or from small beach coves
5. Keep fishing until you accumulate 500 Darkmoon Daggermaws. On average this takes 3–5 hours when fishing in open water, or 1.5–2 hours with active hunting for Bloated Threshers
6. Return to the vendor Galissa Sundew on the waterfront
7. Trade 500 Daggermaws for the Darkwater Skate. The mount will automatically be added to your collection

Raising your fishing skill

Before you start, level your fishing as high as possible. The higher the skill, the fewer empty casts and the more often thresher bites trigger.

Optimal route

The fastest path is to move around the island's perimeter and collect everything you see along the way:

1. Start from the pier near Galissa (northeast)
2. Move along the water to the south, collecting debris
3. Enter the cove at the southern tip — Sealed Crates often float there
4. Continue along the western side to the little bridge and back to the pier
5. One lap takes 10–15 minutes and usually brings 20–50 Daggermaws

How long the full farm will take

If you couldn't fit it into one Faire — calmly finish the farm next month. Accumulated Daggermaws never disappear.
