Get Deathbringer's Flayedwing mount
Overview

Deathbringer's Flayedwing is a flying chimera mount from the Shadowlands, added to the World of Warcraft database alongside the Shadowlands expansion (patch 9.0.1). It is a grim, raven-black flayedwing in battle armor, the very same skeletal predator from the clawed Maldraxxus lineage. In appearance and model it is close to the other flayedwings of the Necrolord covenant, but it stands out with its coal-black coloring and metal plating on its chest and wings.
Its description in the Mount Journal reads: "The only thing more to be feared than the Deathbringer's Flayedwing is the Deathbringer who guides its flight." The mount is summoned by the spell
Deathbringer's Flayedwing.
Important: this mount was never available to players. It was conceived as a reward for the open-world PvP meta-achievement in the Shadowlands, but the achievement was removed from the game before the expansion's release due to a bug in one of its requirements. The item itself was pulled from the Mount Journal in patch 9.0.5. As of Midnight, the mount is still not granted and is absent from the open reward database.
Why You Want This Mount (and Why You Can't Get It Yet)
- Unique flayedwing model — at the moment, this is the only black armored variant of the flying flayedwing. The three other mounts of this family (see the table below) are available to players, but none of them replicate the coloring and equipment of the Deathbringer version
- Historical value — it is tied to the "Deathbringer" title, which is also not granted. Both items remain a monument to the cancelled PvP system of the Shadowlands
- Collector's interest — should the mount ever return (for example, through a "Discovery Age" event or retro quests), it will instantly become prestigious, since it has already been listed as unavailable in the game for almost five years
- Flying type — according to the spell data, it behaves like an ordinary flying mount: +60% or +100% ground speed and +150% or +310% flight speed depending on your riding skill. The required level is 10. These are the standard parameters for all Shadowlands flayedwings
The Planned "Deathbringer" Achievement
According to Wowhead and Icy Veins, the "Deathbringer" meta-achievement was supposed to consist of seven sub-objectives tied to open-world PvP across the four Shadowlands zones with War Mode enabled.
| Sub-objective | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Tour of Duty: Bastion | Earn 1000 Honor points in Bastion in War Mode |
| Tour of Duty: Maldraxxus | Earn 1000 Honor points in Maldraxxus in War Mode |
| Tour of Duty: Revendreth | Earn 1000 Honor points in Revendreth in War Mode |
| Tour of Duty: Ardenweald | Earn 1000 Honor points in Ardenweald in War Mode |
| Under Zo'Sorg's Banners | Complete 4 of Emissary Zo'Sorg's open-world PvP quests 20 times each |
| Zo'Sorg's Harsh Trials | Complete Zo'Sorg's trials with a victory 10 times in War Mode |
| Covenant Clash | Defeat 50 enemy players from each covenant: Kyrian, Necrolords, Night Fae, Venthyr |
In addition to the mount and the title, completing the chain was supposed to award 500 Conquest points. None of the listed achievements were ultimately included in the release build of Shadowlands, so neither the mount nor the title can be obtained.
Why the Mount Is Not Granted
- A bug in the tally of one of the sub-objectives. In the 9.0 closed testing, one of the chain's achievements worked incorrectly, and the kill/quest counter did not update. Blizzard removed the entire branch from the final build to avoid progress issues for players
- No revival in 9.1–9.2. Neither patch 9.1 "Chains of Domination" nor 9.2 "Eternity's End" brought the achievement back. In 9.0.5 the mount item was removed from the Journal, which formally confirmed the abandonment of the reward
- Silence in the following expansions. In the expansions after Shadowlands, the achievement did not surface either as part of backward-compatible content or in the updated PvP seasons. The mount remains in the database as "unused"
- No path through purchase, farming, or trade. The mount has no vendor, drop source, or quest in the game. Unlike most of the momentarily unavailable Shadowlands rewards
Keep an Eye on the Return
We recommend keeping the matter in view and periodically checking for updates:
- Datamining news — any changes to the tooltip of item 181817 or spell 318052 will be published immediately
- PvP season updates in Midnight and subsequent expansions — if Blizzard brings back the open-world PvP meta-achievement, this mount will very likely become the basis of a retro reward
- The "Discovery Age" event and other retro activities — based on historical precedent (the return of cancelled rewards), lost mounts are sometimes brought back through temporary events
- Official Blizzard announcements — PvP season descriptions always state which titles and mounts are tied to open-world PvP. A mention of the "Deathbringer" will be a signal of the return
Tips and Tricks
- Don't buy "acquisition services" from third-party providers. The mount is technically impossible to obtain by legitimate means. Any seller offering the
Deathbringer's Flayedwing is either scamming or planning to use an exploit — in both cases you risk an account ban - Keep an eye on War Mode already now. If Blizzard brings the achievement back, most of the requirements will involve gathering Honor in the open world. Leveling up War Mode and covenant reputations in advance is a good head start
- Collect the rest of the flayedwings. Even if the main mount is unavailable, the other variants will give you the full set of models
- Check the Mount Journal after every major patch. If the mount returns to the journal, you'll be the first to know: a new entry will appear in the interface under "Flying — Shadowlands"

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
