Get Deep Thunder
Overview

Deep Thunder is a two-handed mace added to World of Warcraft with the The Burning Crusade expansion. It is a massive hammer with a dark haft and a head crackling with swirling storm discharges — the entire model is built around the theme of storm and lightning. The silhouette is heavy and imposing, so the mace reads beautifully on a plate wearer's back.
Historically, it was one of the best crafted maces of its time, with a striking stun on hit. Today its stats are outdated, and the item's value is purely visual: it is a recognizable "storm" two-hander for transmog looks, and at the same time a step in the famous chain of blacksmithing hammers leading to
Stormherald.
Source
Deep Thunder does not drop from bosses — it is a Blacksmithing item. It is crafted by a weaponsmith with the Hammersmith specialization.
- Profession — Blacksmithing with skill 375, plus the Hammersmith specialization (the weaponsmith branch).
- The
Deep Thunder recipe is learned from a Blacksmithing master after taking the Hammersmith specialization. - The finished mace binds when picked up, so you can only craft it for your own character.

Thunder itself is the previous step of the same chain, also crafted by a Hammersmith. So the path looks like this: first you craft Thunder, then it is used as a reagent for Deep Thunder.
Who It Suits Visually
- Harmonizes with looks themed around storm, thunder, and lightning — for example, with blue-gray plate armor.
- Suits concepts of a shaman or an elemental warrior thanks to its storm head.
- Stands out against light golden armor, adding a dark and heavy splash of color.
- Pairs well with cloaks and shields in a cold blue-steel palette.
Tips
Crafting requires Blacksmithing at the maximum level for The Burning Crusade and the Hammersmith specialization, so plan your profession leveling in advance.
If your blacksmith already has the needed specialization, craft Thunder first and then use it in the Deep Thunder recipe.
The Primal Nether and Primal Mana reagents are gathered in the zones of Outland, so it is convenient to farm them along the way while running old content.
After obtaining the mace, the appearance is immediately added to your appearance collection — there is no need to sell the item.
If you are collecting the entire line for your collection, do not disenchant Thunder prematurely: it is needed as a reagent for the next step.
The Hammersmith and its competing branch are mutually exclusive on a single character, so it is easier to fully collect the whole "storm" line with a single Hammersmith blacksmith.
