Overview

Diamond-Tipped Cane

Game iconDiamond-Tipped Cane is a two-handed staff of white quality with an extremely low item level. It has no combat value whatsoever, and its sole purpose is cosmetic: a slim cane topped with a faceted diamond that catches the light and gives off a faint sparkle. The silhouette is deliberately modest, with no bulky pommels or glow, which makes it a handy base for elegant, "civilian" outfits.

The item dates back to the Wrath of the Lich King expansion, where it first entered the game through fishing rewards. Later, in Warlords of Draenor, a second way to obtain it was added — fishing in the garrison. The appearance unlocks account-wide as soon as you receive the item itself, so you only need to farm it once on any character.

Source

The appearance has two independent fishing sources, and neither requires any combat — all you need is fishing and a little patience.

The Garrison in Warlords of Draenor (the current, fast route). In the orc garrison on Frostfire Ridge you need to build a Fishing Shack and upgrade it to level three. After that, Game iconFrostdeep Minnow can be caught in the local pond. If you throw this fish back into the pond, a Frostdeep Cavedweller appears — a murloc that drops the cane along with other fishing rewards.

  • There is a cooldown of about 30 seconds between fish throws.
  • You can repeat the summon many times, so the source is essentially unlimited in the number of attempts.
  • Alongside the cane, the same chests and content drop other rare fishing items, so the farm is almost never "empty."

Dalaran in Wrath of the Lich King (the classic route). Historically the appearance dropped from the Game iconBag of Fishing Treasures reward, which is granted for daily fishing quests. These quests are given by Marcia Chase by the fountain in Northrend's Dalaran.

  • The quest can be taken once per day, so the route through Dalaran is noticeably slower than the garrison one.
  • It suits you if you are already doing the old fishing dailies for other rewards anyway.

Who It Suits Visually

  • It harmonizes with light cloth sets in pale and pastel tones — the cane does not pull attention onto itself.
  • It fits "civilian" and roleplay looks: a scholar, an aristocrat, a city dweller, rather than a battle mage.
  • It works in sets with gold and silver trim thanks to the gleam of the faceted diamond at the top.
  • It contrasts with heavy plate armor — a debatable combination, but it can work as a deliberately ironic look.

Tips

1

The fastest method is garrison fishing: upgrade the Fishing Shack to level three in advance, otherwise the fish you need will not show up.

2

Keep a stock of "Frostdeep Minnow" in your bags so you can summon the murloc back to back without stopping to re-catch them.

3

Account for the roughly 30-second cooldown between throwing fish into the pond — it is the natural speed limit of the farm.

4

In a single garrison run you can collect several fishing appearances at once, so combine the hunt for the cane with farming the murloc's other rewards.

5

If you prefer the route through Dalaran, complete the fishing daily from Marcia Chase every game day — the reward is granted no more than once per day.

6

Remember that the appearance unlocks account-wide: there is no need to farm the cane again on other characters.

7

The low item level does not get in the way of transmogrification — only the unlocked model itself matters for the appearance.
