Overview

Direbrew's Bloodied Shanker

Game iconDirebrew's Bloodied Shanker is a one-handed dagger with one of the most recognizable "goofy" models in the game: instead of a blade, it sports the broken-off neck of a glass bottle with jagged shards. This is no ceremonial weapon but a tavern-brawl prop, and that is exactly what makes it valuable for transmog.

The model is a direct nod to the seasonal Brewfest event — Azeroth's take on real-world beer festivals. A "shanker" of this sort is the makeshift shiv you get from a broken bottle neck, and the item's appearance plays on that idea literally.

Source

The Direbrew's Bloodied Shanker only drops during the seasonal Brewfest event and is unavailable outside its dates.

Key steps:

  • Brewfest takes place every autumn and lasts about two weeks. The festivities unfold at the gates of Ironforge and Orgrimmar.
  • During the event, a daily fight against the festival boss Coren Direbrew becomes available. You reach him through the Dungeon Finder — the system sends your group into Blackrock Depths.
  • For the first kill of Coren Direbrew each day, your character receives a Game iconKeg-Shaped Treasure Chest. The dagger is found inside this very chest.
  • The chest is granted once per day per character. Only the Brewfest Prize Tokens are guaranteed, while weapons, mounts, and other rare items drop by chance.
  • The Direbrew's Bloodied Shanker is just one of the chest's possible items, so it may not drop on a single daily attempt. The realistic path to it is to visit the boss every day throughout the event.

Worth a separate mention is the Game iconDirebrew's Remote — a device that also drops from Coren Direbrew and teleports your group within the dungeon. It does not affect the dagger's appearance, but it often appears in the same loot list.

Alternatives

The "broken bottle" model has several bearers in the game. If the Direbrew's Bloodied Shanker appearance is unavailable because the event is inactive, you can look into similar daggers with the same silhouette.

Item
Source
Game iconDirebrew's Bloody ShankerAn older version of the item from the Wrath of the Lich King era, the same broken-bottle appearance
Game iconBarman ShankerA drop from Blackrock Depths, a classic bottle dagger
Game iconBroken Silversnap BottleA quest reward in Suramar, a dagger with the look of a broken bottle neck

A separate note on the Game iconDirebrew's Bloody Shanker: it is the direct predecessor of our dagger from the early days of Brewfest. The items are visually identical, but the old version was long ago removed from loot sources, so for the appearance collection you should aim for the Direbrew's Bloodied Shanker instead.

Who it suits visually

  • Innkeeper, smuggler, or dockside cutthroat looks — the dagger reads like an improvised weapon from the nearest tavern.
  • Sets in a brown-and-glass palette: dark leather, coarse cloth, and copper or brass accents pair well with the model's greenish glass.
  • Brewfest-themed outfits — together with festive headgear and mugs, the dagger pulls a whole "beer-hall" look together.
  • Goofy and comedic rogue or demon hunter sets, where a normal ceremonial weapon would clash with the overall mood.
  • Dual wielding: the model is not unique, so you can put the shanker in both hands at once for a finished tavern-rowdy look.

Tips

1

Plan your hunt ahead: the item is tied to Brewfest's dates, and you cannot obtain it outside the event — wait for the autumn window.

2

Visit Coren Direbrew for the first time each day — the first kill is what grants the Keg-Shaped Treasure Chest with a chance at the dagger.

3

The Dungeon Finder fight is short and does not require a prepared group, so the daily run takes only a few minutes.

4

The dagger scales to your character's level, so you can farm it even on a low-level alt — the appearance unlocks into the collection just the same.

5

The same chest also drops Brewfest mounts and other festive items, so the daily runs pay off with more than just the dagger.

6

If the shanker never dropped during the current event season, nothing is lost — your attempts resume next year, and the chest's progress resets each day.

7

Once you unlock the appearance on even a single character, you gain it account-wide and can apply the transmog with any suitable class.
