WoW Forever Balance Druid — Specialization Changes

Specialization Overview

Ranged, spell damage. In Classic, raiding Balance leaned on a repeating Game iconStarfire: expensive alternatives and a shortage of slots for debuffs kept the rotation from branching out. In Forever the tree finally has a reason to alternate spells: Eclipse turns Game iconWrath into a setup, Nature's Balance rewards switching schools, and Game iconMoonkin Form hands crit to the whole group.

Class Changes

Eclipse Leads From Wrath Into Starfire

Eclipse gives Game iconWrath a setup role: at the first rank it shortens the cast time of the next two Game iconStarfire casts by 0.17 seconds, holds up to four charges, and lasts 15 seconds. Bank them when there is enough time left on the effect for the sped-up Game iconStarfire casts to go out.

Nature's Balance empowers your next Arcane spell after a Nature cast and vice versa — for ten seconds. Weigh this school-swap bonus against your Eclipse charge count, the target's health, and any upcoming movement, rather than alternating spells mechanically after every cast.

Game iconImproved Wrath reduces both the cast time of Game iconWrath and its cost, while Game iconMoonglow cuts spell costs more broadly.

Critical Ticks and Nature's Grace

Game iconMoonfire and Game iconInsect Swarm deal damage while you move or cast something else. Nature's Splendor extends both, and Genesis raises all periodic damage and healing. Apply them where enough ticks can land, and let the current duration run down to its refresh. Game iconImproved Moonfire increases the damage and crit chance of Game iconMoonfire, so crit works on both the periodic part and the initial hit. Keep the effects on durable targets before repositioning, but do not spend several global cooldowns on extra enemies that will die before the ticks pay off the investment.

Game iconNature's Grace triggers strictly off non-periodic critical strikes. It increases casting speed and reduces the global cooldown by 10% for three seconds. In Classic the effect instead cut the next cast's time by half a second. Crits from your periodic effects do not trigger this version, so keep up a share of direct casts rather than counting on a field of periodics to sustain the haste on its own.

Moonkin, Control, and Room for Casts

Game iconMoonkin Form grants party members within 45 yards a 3% critical strike chance and does not stack with Game iconLeader of the Pack. In Classic the moonkin handed out spell crit only and within 30 yards; in Forever the crit is universal, so a mixed group gets more from it. The form also raises armor contribution from items by 360%, but forbids healing spells. If a healer needs help, drop out of the form to heal and accept the lost damage time.

Brambles increases the number of targets you can hold with Game iconEntangling Roots, while Game iconImproved Entangling Roots raises the roots' damage and the damage threshold a victim can take before the effect breaks. Mark rooted enemies and keep area damage away from them: the raised threshold still does not make the roots permanent. Game iconNature's Reach adds range and hit to all your spells and attacks, so reliable control is paid for by the same investment as damage.

Core Ability Overview

Wrath and Starfire

Game iconWrath is a fast Nature cast that banks Eclipse charges. Game iconStarfire is a heavy Arcane spell that those charges exist for.

Moonfire and Insect Swarm

Game iconMoonfire deals instant damage and applies a periodic effect, Game iconInsect Swarm is pure periodic. Both work on the move and can crit.

Hurricane

Game iconHurricane is a channeled area spell. Start it where you can stand your ground, and keep it away from controlled targets.

Entangling Roots

Game iconEntangling Roots holds an enemy in place. Game iconImproved Entangling Roots raises the roots' damage and their break threshold, while Brambles increases the number of targets.

Moonkin Form

Game iconMoonkin Form gives the group crit, raises armor, and forbids healing. It does not stack with Game iconLeader of the Pack, so a raid spreads its druids into different groups.

Group Support

Game iconMark of the Wild and Game iconThorns buff allies, Game iconInnervate returns mana to a healer, Game iconRebirth raises a fallen ally right in combat, Game iconRemove Curse and Game iconCure Poison remove effects, and Game iconFaerie Fire lowers the target's armor.

Talent Overview

The Balance tree holds exactly 51 points — the entire budget goes into it whole, leaving no spare points for neighboring trees.

This is not a ready-made leveling build. It is only a sample point distribution for reference.

Weapon Choice

Balance weapons are a stat block, not a damage source. A staff or a one-hander-plus-offhand combo is chosen for spell power, intellect, and crit; per-swing damage in moonkin form does not count at all.

Crit works more broadly here than in Classic: Game iconNature's Grace needs specifically direct crits, Game iconVengeance raises their damage, and the ticks of Game iconMoonfire and Game iconInsect Swarm can crit too. In other words, one stat pays for both the haste and the periodics.

Spell power boosts both direct casts and periodic effects. Intellect matters because of the expensive Game iconStarfire, while Game iconMoonglow and Game iconImproved Wrath take part of the cost off.

Spell hit is covered by Game iconNature's Reach — which also adds range. This is the case where a single investment solves both the hit question and the distance question, so gear can be chosen more freely for spell power and crit.
