Overview

Echo of Aln'sharan

Game iconEcho of Aln'sharan is a flying mount in the form of a cloud serpent, introduced in the Midnight expansion (patch 12.0.0). The mount is wreathed in a bluish-white radiance and visually resembles an echo of the goddess Aln'sharan herself, an ancient celestial being that dwells above the Harandar zone.

Obtaining this mount requires completing a short side quest chain and gathering 500 Game iconMysterious Skyshards from creatures all across Harandar. The collection process runs in parallel with other activities in the zone, so it is recommended to start the quest chain as early as possible.

Why You Want This Mount

  • Unique model — a cloud serpent with an aerithic aesthetic, visually distinct from the classic cloud serpents of Pandaria.
  • Feat of Strength — when you obtain the mount, you also earn the achievement "Voice of the Goddess," which is a Feat of Strength.
  • Available to everyone — the mount is not tied to a season and does not require a group. Any character who reaches Harandar and completes the quest chain can obtain it.
  • Warband-bound — Mysterious Skyshards are Warband-bound, so you can farm them on several characters simultaneously.

How to Reach Harandar

Harandar is an underground zone of the Midnight expansion, a bioluminescent jungle among the roots of the World Trees. Access to the zone opens up over the course of the main Midnight story campaign. After your first visit, a portal from the capital becomes available to you.

The mount quest chain is located in the settlement of Har'kuai, in the northeastern part of the zone.

The "Legend of Aln'sharan" Quest Chain

Before skyshards start dropping from monsters, you must complete a side chain of 5 quests. The quests are given by the NPC Kuri in the settlement of Har'kuai. If the quests are unavailable, make sure you have completed the story branch "Of Caves and Cradles."

Quest Order

# Quest Objective
1 Tales of the Sky Collect 6 scattered sky shards
2 Ugh, Chores! Collect 8 intact saptor leaves
3 Carry On, Wayward Kuri Find Kuri in the Dret'amar cave
4 Skyglass Scavenging Collect piles of skyglass and defeat enemies
5 The Legend of Aln'sharan Return to Kuri in Har'kuai

The first two quests can be picked up at the same time. The entire chain takes about 15-20 minutes. Upon completing the final quest, you will receive your first 5 Mysterious Skyshards, and most importantly, from that moment on skyshards will start dropping from any creature in Harandar.

Tip: Start this chain as soon as you reach Har'kuai, even before completing the zone's main campaign. While you are doing the story quests, the skyshards will accumulate on their own.

Farming Mysterious Skyshards

After completing the quest chain, Mysterious Skyshards begin dropping from practically any creature in Harandar. You need to collect 500 of them.

Farming Methods

Method Efficiency Notes
Delve "Pit of Spite" High (100-150 shards/hour) The fastest method. 2-5 shards per run. Any difficulty works
Delve "Cove of Memory" High Same as the Pit of Spite, a different delve in Harandar
Open world: Fungara Village Medium Small creatures (Decanimated Rotlings) respawn quickly and also drop shards
Open world: west of the Lair Medium Dense groups of plant creatures in packs of 3-5
Harandar rare creatures Low (passive) 1-2 shards from each rare creature per day. Bonus: rare creatures can also drop other zone mounts
Resource gathering Low (passive) Shards can drop from creatures while gathering herbs, ore, or fishing

Time Estimate

With focused farming through delves (100-150 shards per hour), collecting 500 shards will take 3-5 hours. With passive collection while doing world quests and the campaign, it will take anywhere from a few days to a week.

Farming on Alts

Mysterious Skyshards are Warband-bound, so they can be transferred between characters of the same account. Each alt on which you want to farm shards must complete the "Legend of Aln'sharan" chain on its own to unlock the drop.

How to Obtain the Mount: Step-by-Step Instructions

Once you have accumulated 500 Mysterious Skyshards, follow these steps:

Step 1. Return to Kuri in the settlement of Har'kuai.

/way #2413 66.14 25.48 Kuri (turning in shards)

Step 2. Use the extra action button that appears to throw the 500 shards into the water beside Kuri. You will receive the buff Plea of the Skyshards.

Step 3. Find Aln'sharan — a massive celestial serpent that flies high above Harandar around the zone's perimeter. To locate it, use the macro:

/tar Aln'sharan

If targeting does not work, fly higher and circle the edges of the zone. Aln'sharan may change its route.

Step 4. Fly up to Aln'sharan and dismount. Interaction is impossible while you are mounted. The dragon deals periodic damage with its aura "Aln's Storm," so act quickly.

Step 5. Right-click on Aln'sharan. After a successful interaction, you will receive the Echo of Aln'sharan mount in your inventory and the achievement "Voice of the Goddess."

How to Survive the Fall

After dismounting in midair, you need to avoid dying from the fall. Options:

  • Goblin Glider — a universal option for any class
  • Druid — bird or wild cat form (slow fall)
  • Mage — Slow Fall
  • Demon Hunter — Glide
  • Warrior — Heroic Leap to the ground
  • Priest — Levitate
  • Umbrella parachute — a toy from earlier expansions

Tips and Common Mistakes

  • Start the quest chain as early as possible. The sooner you unlock the skyshard drop, the more of them will accumulate by the time you want to obtain the mount.
  • Don't throw away the shards. They take up space in your inventory, but you need all 500.
  • Check for the buff before flying. Without the "Plea of the Skyshards" buff, you won't be able to interact with Aln'sharan.
  • Prepare a fall-mitigation method in advance. The most common cause of failure is dying from the fall after dismounting next to the dragon.
  • Delves are the fastest route. If you want to get the mount sooner, run the "Pit of Spite" or "Cove of Memory" delves on the lowest difficulty.
  • Farming on alts speeds up the process, but each alt must complete the chain of 5 quests on its own.

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
