Overview

Emberdawn Defender

Game iconEmberdawn Defender is a two-handed sword added to World of Warcraft in the Midnight expansion. It is a massive blade with a broad edge in a warm fiery-amber palette: orange-red veins across the metal echo the plumage of the dragonhawk that gave the weapon its name. The sword carries the Strength stat, so it suits plate-wearing classes that fight with two-handed melee weapons.

The appearance is obtained in the Windrunner Spire dungeon — a Season 1 Midnight dungeon located in Eversong Woods. The weapon drops from the dungeon's first boss.

Source

Emberdawn Defender drops from Emberdawn — the first boss of the Windrunner Spire dungeon. Emberdawn is a huge dragonhawk that nests in the gardens of the Spire.

  • The dungeon is located in Eversong Woods; the entrance is in the southwestern part of the zone.
  • Entrance coordinates: /way 35.2 78.4 Windrunner Spire.
  • The appearance drops on any dungeon difficulty — Normal, Heroic, Mythic and Mythic+.
  • It is the first of four bosses, so the run up to it is short — convenient for repeat farming.
  • On a Mythic+ key you can further increase your chance at the weapon you need with the loot from the chest at the end of the run.

Who It Suits Visually

  • It pairs with plate sets in fiery and amber tones — the blade's orange-red veins reinforce a "flaming" look.
  • It harmonizes with transmogs themed around phoenixes, dragonhawks and the elven fire of Quel'Thalas.
  • It stands out against cold silver-blue armor, adding a bright, warm accent.
  • It fits looks for Warrior, Death Knight and Retribution Paladin, where the two-hander is the centerpiece.

Tips

1

Emberdawn is the first boss, so you don't need to clear the entire dungeon for the appearance.

2

You can farm it repeatedly: restart the dungeon until the model you need drops.

3

On Mythic+, make sure you beat the timer — then an extra loot chest opens at the end of the run.

4

If you only want the transmog, take Normal or Heroic difficulty: they are faster and don't require a key.

5

It's convenient to collect the appearance alongside earning reputation and seasonal Midnight rewards in Eversong Woods.

6

The two-hander counts toward your account-wide appearance collection, so getting it on a single character is enough.
