Overview

Emil's Brand

Game iconEmil's Brand is a two-handed sword with a broad, straight blade and a plain, austere guard in the spirit of Azeroth's classic early weapons. It is an uncommon item (green quality) with item level 80, free of flashy effects and glow — that very restrained, "honest" silhouette makes it a great pick for knight, warrior, and paladin looks without any excess fantasy shine.

The sword hails from the earliest version of the game and is earned by completing a quest rather than from a drop. Because of this, the appearance is guaranteed to be yours — you only need to run a short chain once, with no hours of farming or reliance on luck.

Source

Emil's Brand is granted as a reward for the quest Insane Druids in Ashenvale. This is an Alliance quest.

  • The quest is given by Gaivan Shadewalker in the Forest Song settlement, in the east of Ashenvale. The quest giver's approximate coordinates are around 85, 44.
  • The task asks you to kill three crazed druids: Taneel Darkwood, Aethil Moonwhisper, and Mavoris Sunblaze. All three are found in the lair of the Dor'Danil Barrow Den in the west of the zone.
  • The sword is a choice reward: instead of it you can take a staff (see the "Alternatives" section). For a two-handed sword appearance collection, pick Emil's Brand specifically.
  • The reward binds to the character on pickup, so the sword cannot be passed to another character — the appearance unlocks for whoever completed the quest.
  • The quest can be completed once per character. If you need both the sword and the staff in your collection, you will have to run the task on different characters or pick the second item on an alternate hero.

Who it suits visually

  • Suits "grounded" plate sets without magical glow — low-level steel and chainmail kits.
  • Harmonizes with a gray-steel, neutral armor color palette.
  • Looks great on a rank-and-file warrior or mercenary look, where you need a simple, recognizable blade.
  • A solid choice for "realistic" historical knight looks without fantasy effects.
  • Contrasts with bright, glowing sets — a calm blade balances out armor heavy with effects.

Tips

1

The fastest way to get the appearance is to pick up the quest from Gaivan Shadewalker in Forest Song and head straight to the Dor'Danil Barrow Den.

2

All three targets are in the same lair, so the route is short — the task wraps up in a few minutes.

3

At the modern max level the druids die instantly, so there will be no combat trouble at all.

4

Decide in advance what you need — the sword or the staff: the choice is made once and cannot be undone.

5

The appearance is only available to the Alliance, since this is an Alliance quest in Ashenvale.

6

If you collect both the sword and the staff, keep a second Alliance character ready for the alternate reward.
