Overview

Enchanted Wakener's Runestag

Game iconEnchanted Wakener's Runestag is an epic ground mount added in patch 9.0 of the Shadowlands expansion. It is a magical runic stag steed shrouded in the bluish magic of Ardenweald. The mount drops from the Queen's Conservatory Cache — the reward for growing spirits in the Queen's Conservatory, a special feature of the Night Fae covenant.

The mount's model is a majestic stag with branching antlers adorned with glowing runes. The Enchanted Wakener's Runestag is one of four color variations of the Queen's Conservatory stags, alongside the Enchanted Shadowleaf Runestag, the Enchanted Lambent Runestag and the Enchanted Wintersleep Runestag.

Why You Want This Mount

  • Exclusivity — the mount is available only through the Queen's Conservatory mechanic of the Night Fae covenant. The random drop chance from the cache makes it rare
  • Unique theme — the stag embodies the magic of Ardenweald, the forest of eternal life. The runic glow and the elegant model set it apart from other ground mounts
  • Account-wide — once obtained, the mount becomes available on all characters, even those not in the Night Fae covenant
  • No gold required — unlike purchasable mounts, the Wakener's Runestag is earned through gameplay activity rather than for gold
  • Parallel farming — while a spirit grows in the garden (3–7 days), you work on other content. The mount is farmed in the background

How to Obtain

To obtain the mount you must be a member of the Night Fae covenant, upgrade the Queen's Conservatory to rank 5 and grow a spirit with the right combination of catalysts.

  1. Join the Night Fae covenant by completing the Ardenweald campaign. The covenant is available upon reaching level 60 in Shadowlands (or through the Chromie system)
  2. Unlock the Queen's Conservatory by completing the introductory quest "The Queen's Conservatory" from an NPC in the Heart of the Forest
  3. Upgrade the Queen's Conservatory to rank 5 by investing stored anima and refined souls
  4. Obtain a Game iconDivine Untamed Spirit. Sources: command table missions, weekly Maw quests, the Gardener's Supplies
  5. Collect 4 Game iconWildseed Root Grain — catalysts that increase the quality of the reward
  6. Plant the 4 Wildseed Root Grain in the catalyst beds adjacent to the wildseed pod at rank 5 (the only plot with 4 catalyst slots)
  7. Place the Divine Untamed Spirit into the wildseed pod. Important: the catalysts must be planted BEFORE the spirit is placed, otherwise they will not take effect
  8. Wait for incubation to finish (3–7 days depending on the spirit's quality)
  9. Collect the Queen's Conservatory Cache and check whether the mount dropped
  10. If the mount did not drop — repeat the process. The drop chance is random and may take several attempts

Spirit Types

There are four types of spirits by covenant affiliation:

  • Untamed (Night Fae) — yield Ardenweald-themed mounts and pets
  • Dutiful (Kyrian) — Bastion-themed rewards
  • Martial (Necrolords) — Maldraxxus-themed rewards
  • Prideful (Venthyr) — Revendreth-themed rewards

Each type has three quality tiers:

  • Common — basic rewards, incubation around 1 day
  • Great — improved rewards, incubation around 3 days
  • Divine — the best rewards and the highest chance for mounts, incubation around 7 days

To farm the stag, use Untamed spirits of any quality, but Divine ones give the highest chance.

Catalyst Types

Catalyst Effect
Game iconUntamed Spirit Increases reward quality (needed for mounts)
Game iconCondensed Anima Mote Reduces incubation time
Game iconSpoiled Contaminant Increases the number of rewards

For the highest mount chance, always use 4 Wildseed Root Grain.

How to Get Spirits and Catalysts

Sources of Untamed Spirits

  • Queen's Conservatory weekly quest — a reward for visiting the garden, lets you choose a Great spirit of any type
  • Command table missions — send missions from the table in the Heart of the Forest; some reward spirits
  • Gardener's Supplies — a weekly bundle obtained from covenant content, may contain spirits
  • Maw quests — weekly quests in the Maw sometimes reward Divine spirits

Sources of Wildseed Root Grain

  • World quests — quests in Shadowlands zones periodically reward catalysts
  • Gardener's Supplies — the weekly bundle contains random catalysts
  • Command table — missions can reward catalysts
  • Covenant vendor — some catalysts can be purchased with the anima reservoir

Farming Optimization

Weekly Plan

  1. Get the Gardener's Supplies and open them — choose or save spirits and catalysts
  2. Complete the Queen's Conservatory weekly quest — pick a Great Untamed spirit if a Divine one is unavailable
  3. Send command table missions for spirits and catalysts
  4. Check world quests — look for rewards in the form of Wildseed Root Grain
  5. Plant 4 Wildseed Root Grain in the rank 5 beds
  6. Place the best available Untamed spirit into the pod
  7. After 3–7 days collect the cache and check the reward

How Long It Will Take

The mount's drop chance is random. According to player reports, some get lucky on the first try, while others need 20–35 cycles. At a weekly rhythm of one cycle, farming can take from 1 week to several months.

Speeding Up Incubation

If you want to make more attempts per unit of time, replace one Wildseed Root Grain with a Condensed Anima Mote. This shortens the incubation time but slightly lowers the mount chance. It is optimal to use all 4 Wildseed Root Grain and wait the full duration.

Using Beds in Parallel

At rank 5 there are 6 wildseed pods available. While one pod with 4 Wildseed Root Grain grows a spirit for the mount, plant spirits in the other pods to obtain anima, pets or other resources. This does not affect the mount chance but optimizes use of the garden.

Tips

1

Plant catalysts first — if you place a spirit into the pod before planting the catalysts, they will not take effect. Always fill all 4 catalyst beds with Wildseed Root Grain first, then place the spirit

2

Stockpile Divine spirits — common and Great untamed spirits can also yield the mount, but the chance is significantly lower. Try to use Divine ones for the plot with 4 slots

3

Don't forget the command table — missions for spirits and catalysts are completed automatically by your companions. Check the table every time you log in

4

The covenant can be switched — in the current version of the game switching covenants has no restrictions. If you are not Night Fae, join them for the garden and return to your former covenant after obtaining the mount

5

The mount is not bound to the covenant — once learned, the Enchanted Wakener's Runestag is available on all characters regardless of the current covenant

6

Use the Chromie system — if your character has not yet completed Shadowlands, activate the Shadowlands timeline through Chromie in Orgrimmar or Stormwind

7

Check the cache on time — after incubation finishes the pod stays ready for collection, but until you collect it the plot is occupied and you cannot start a new cycle
