Eve's Ghastly Rider
Overview

Eve's Ghastly Rider is a permanent flying broom mount added to World of Warcraft in patch 10.1.7 "Fractures in Time" of the Dragonflight expansion on September 5, 2023. Unlike the classic
Magic Broom, which is only available during the Hallow's End holiday, this broom can be used year-round. The mount is visually far more detailed than its predecessor: high-resolution textures, an elegant saddle, and a lantern dangling from the front of the broom.
The item teaches the spell
Eve's Ghastly Rider. The description nods to the lore of the Fenlow family, known from the Hallow's End quests in the Eastern Kingdoms: "The Fenlow family's favorite mode of transportation (especially during Hallow's End)." The broom supports free flight, making it one of the most convenient mounts for dynamic travel across the Dragon Isles, Kul Tiras, Zandalar, and Khaz Algar.
Why You Want This Mount
- Permanent access — unlike the classic
Magic Broom, which is only granted during Hallow's End, this broom can be summoned year-round regardless of the current holiday. - Free flight support — the mount works in Skyriding mode on every continent where the dynamic flight system is available.
- Instant summoning during Hallow's End — from October 18 to November 1 each year the cast time drops to 0 seconds, just like the holiday brooms.
- Adaptive speed — the mount automatically changes its travel type and speed based on your riding skill and the terrain.
- Unique model — the lantern, pumpkin decor, and atmospheric particles make the broom one of the most thematic holiday mounts, fitting perfectly into any Hallow's End fan's collection.
- Account-wide — once obtained, the mount unlocks on every character on your account regardless of faction and class.
How to Obtain
Eve's Ghastly Rider is a limited-availability mount. It was originally granted for free by filling the progress bar in the Traveler's Log, and was later put up for sale in the in-game Blizzard Shop.
- Traveler's Log, October 2023 — the main original source. The mount was granted as a bonus reward for filling the Trader's Tender bar (1,000 points) in the Traveler's Log in October 2023. The activity was available to subscription and Dragonflight owners
- In-game Blizzard Shop — in October–November 2024 the mount returned to the shop for USD 25. Sales window: from October 1 to November 4, 2024
- Possible future returns — Blizzard periodically brings old seasonal mounts back to the shop. Keep an eye on the news in early October each year, as the Hallow's End season approaches
At present (2026) the mount is unavailable for purchase. If you missed both distribution waves, all that remains is to wait for the next shop return or promotion.
Traveler's Log and the Trading Post
The main path to obtaining the mount in October 2023 was tied to the Trading Post — the monthly cosmetic reward system added in patch 10.0.5. Eve's Ghastly Rider was the key bonus of the month.
- Open the Adventure Guide (Shift+J) and switch to the "Traveler's Log" tab
- Complete seasonal activities: raid boss kills, pet battles, currency gathering, emotes at NPCs, holiday tasks. Each activity grants Travel Points
- Accumulate 1,000 Travel Points to fill the progress bar at the top of the log
- Once the bar is full, Eve's Ghastly Rider was automatically added to your mount collection
Log Details
- Progress is account-wide — alts can contribute
- Each month, in addition to the Trader's Tender currency, a monthly bonus prize was granted: a mount, pet, toy, or appearance set
- The activity list changed every month, so players could choose convenient tasks
Blizzard Shop
After being removed from the Trading Post, the mount moved to the paid shop on a permanent-sale basis with a limited window.
- Return date: October 1, 2024.
- End of sales: November 4, 2024 (other sources say November 10).
- Price: USD 25 (~25 euros in the European shop).
- How to buy: through the in-game shop (icon below the minimap) or the Battle.net website.
- Details: the purchase is bound to your Battle.net account, and the mount appears in your collection across all characters immediately.
Usage Notes
Instant Summoning During Hallow's End
From October 18 to November 1 each year the broom's cast time drops from 1.5 seconds to 0. This puts the broom on par with the holiday
Magic Broom and Swift Flying Broom, letting you hop onto the mount instantly while running.
Free Flight
The broom supports the dynamic flight system introduced in Dragonflight. On every continent with free flight active (the Dragon Isles, Kul Tiras, Zandalar, the Broken Isles, Khaz Algar, and beyond) you can perform aerial maneuvers, build speed by diving, and use the vortex boost.
Limitations
- Cannot be summoned in combat
- Only under open sky
- Does not work with mount equipment
- Cannot be cast while moving outside of Hallow's End
Alternative Hallow's End Brooms
If you missed Eve's Ghastly Rider, take a look at the temporary brooms available during Hallow's End each year.
| Broom | Source | Permanent |
|---|---|---|
| Vendor near the Headless Horseman, |
No, only during Hallow's End | |
| Traveler's Log 10.2023, shop 10.2024 | Yes, year-round | |
| Swift Flying Broom | Does not exist — a mythical item | — |
The closest permanent holiday mount in spirit remains the
Amani War Bear, which drops from the
Loot-Filled Pumpkin by the Headless Horseman in the Scarlet Monastery.
Lore: The Fenlow Family
The mount's flavor text directly references the Fenlow family — four sister NPCs who have run the Hallow's End holiday events in the Eastern Kingdoms for many years.
- Gertrude Fenlow — Elwynn Forest, near Stormwind. She launches players on a broom in the quest to bombard Undercity
- Gretchen Fenlow — stands next to Gertrude
- Krista Fenlow — Forsaken, Ruins of Lordaeron. She launches the Horde on a broom toward Stormwind
- Candice Fenlow — the fourth sister, mentioned in the lore
The flying brooms that players use in the Taking Precautions quests during Hallow's End belong to the Fenlow sisters. Eve's Ghastly Rider is the premium version of their transport.
Tips
Watch the October announcements — Blizzard traditionally returns themed Hallow's End mounts to the shop in early October. If you missed both waves, there is still a chance for a return.
Check the Traveler's Log every month — even if you missed October 2023, bonus mounts are granted regularly. Subscribe and stock up on Trader's Tender in advance.
Use the instant summon — during Hallow's End the broom becomes the most convenient tool for micro-travel in cities and on open maps. Don't forget to put it on a hotkey.
Don't confuse it with the regular broom — the
Magic Broom and Eve's Ghastly Rider are different items. The former is free and temporary, the latter paid and permanent.
Account for expansions with free flight — on older continents without free flight (the Eastern Kingdoms, Kalimdor outside the Emerald Dream) the mount works in classic flight mode at a fixed speed.
